Bombing the interview

Step 1: Read This

Step 2: Stop worrying about what others did and utilize your time wisely to prepare yourself. If you're not good at speaking with others, practice and do mock interviews. Seize this opportunity as if it were your last.

I haven't had any yet, but my first one is next Saturday so I'm extremely nervous. I'm shy and introverted, and although undergrad and experience has helped in that area a lot, I'm still scared that under pressure I might falter. Has anyone ever done badly on their interview but still gotten accepted?

Yes, ended up being high alt. at one school and accepted at another school. In the end, I was still offered a seat (this is what I get for interviewing a month before the last interview date). Although, I dont know if I did -bad- but I was certainly nervous. :x I think if u put on a sweet face they will get u through the doors. 🙂 But what do I know.

If ur the nervous type, u will get nervous and its okay. There is so much more to a person than their nervous personality when placed in an interview, which changes people's behaviors. If your academics are great and u can communicate decently, then being nervous isn't going to affect ur chance. What will affect ur chance is the interviewer's connection with u and liking u holistically. Also going back to personality, I think being nervous is better than someone who is cocky and snobby. Those people are awful to talk to! They show no compassion or sympathy to others who are feeling down or stressed out.

The only thing I can tell you is to please be sure to thoroughly go over the, for the lack of a better word, "integrity" questions. Like "what if you saw your friend cheating?" That's what screwed me over. I got nervous and made it sound like I wouldn't have told anyone my friend cheated, needless to say I went from a "shoe-in" to get into the best pharm school in the country, to getting denied just like that.

You are fine. I've been to 4 interviews, and in my experience I have found that there is no benefit - nor penalty - for being extroverted or introverted.

It's really how you answer their questions and express yourself that counts. If you are a kind hearted person with good motivations I'm sure it will come across during your interview even if you are shy and nervous.

Interviews, by default, are based a lot on subjective readings. And usually, no one will gut you for being shy, but someone may deny you based upon being unqualified/unsuitable, in which case we begin discussing qualifications other than your shyness.
