Does one receive the $10,000 bonus after presentation of a valid dental license? Is this the yearly bonus all dentist get (ASP)? what is the latest on the new special pay system for dentist. At one point I heard they were going to consolidate it and call it IP pay? Is this still in the works or is the new pay up and running? If so, can someone explain how it differs from before.

In the Army you will require a valid dental license for the following to apply:

The 63A consolidated special pay (CSP) is a new pay system that essentially
replaces the DASP and VSP pay that most dentists now receive. CSP has two
components, incentive pay (IP) and a retention bonus (RB). The IP is $20K
per year paid in monthly installments. If the dental officer is eligible
for the $25K RB—it is paid in a lump sum. RB is new. Before CSP the 63A
did not have a retention bonus unless they qualified for Advanced Clinical
Practice multiyear retention bonus.

Once an officer is in the new consolidated special pay system, they will
continue to receive IP throughout their residency should they elect to seek
advanced training. However they must enter into IP and (if eligible the RB)
contract before they start their specialty training.

Presently CSP is available only for 63As (dental officers). The policy for
other dental specialties is being written and may not be available until FY
2014 at the earliest.

Do the dental officers receive this special pay during their HPSP payback period (initial 4 years)? Or do you have to wait until you commitment is over until you can receive any special/bonus pay?

The IP (DASP and VSB) is available to any licencesed dentist. The RB is only available to dentists that have completed their payback obligations (both specialists and general dentists although the amounts differ between these two).

What if you are a 63A and enter into the Comp program and become a 63B?...do you automatically get booted back to the old system? Would you have to re-sign into the new CSP system once it becomes available? Would you still be in the CSP program until you graduate from the residency?

I don't know off the top of my head. Anyone on active duty in the Army that is in that situation should contact the Dental Staff Officers at OTSG to have the question accurately answered.

So for all of us graduating this year and entering active duty as 63a's:

Will receive base O-3 pay plus IP of $1,667/mo instead of the annual 10k ASP and 250/mo VSP?
Am I understanding this right?

Does anyone have information on the numbers being thrown around for the new IP and RB for dental specialists? I know this wasn't supposed to be implemented until 2014 but am just curious as to what is being discussed. Thanks!

Check out this link. I am not still sure what we are getting paid during residency, and whether we are permanently committed to one pay system after the first selection.
