Hi all,

I am a current applicant for this cycle, both MD and MD/PhD. I submitted a book chapter earlier this year and received news that it is almost ready to be published. At this time, the publisher wants us to make any last correction but there is an ISBN associated with the book.

I believe in the AMCAS application I mention I submitted the chapter. In regards to this application cycle, do you think this is a worthy update? I'm not very familiar with the publishing process for books and I couldn't find relevant information. If anyone is familiar with this process, I would appreciate your opinion on the matter.

Thank you.

Im not at all familiarr with what you are talking about. Im curious, by book chapter did you write a book as a hobby or something else like that and are including it in your ECs or is it something else that is part of the application?

Book chapters are scientific summaries of a particular problem: either a disease, pathological or something not fully understood. In a chapter, You provide background information regarding a problems, offer solutions and elucidate future areas of research. It is actually pretty impressive to have a chapter as a pre-med. My former PI did publish his first chapter as a research fellow. So to already have a chapter means that you’re an expert in a particular field.
