book chapters?

Will writing a book chapter be of any use to my derm application? Its with a derm faculty and over a derm-related subject.
Is this even considered "research" (i use the term loosely) or just academic activities?

It's a "peer reviewed publication," generally. Book chapters are the equivalent of journal review articles in some eyes.

doesn't matter if it is a publication or not. get your hands on anything that is publishable and publish it. Derm is freaking competitive. Review articles and book chapters are good in that they expand your knowledge base. Case reports, review articles, book chapters, basic science research, publish whatever you can.
