I liked Understanding Health Policy: A Clinical Approach, 5th edition, by Dr. Bodenheimer and Dr. Grumbach.

Read the health section of the New York Times. It is online and (for now),free and up to the minute.

I also like The Wall Street Journal (also online) and The Economist (British newsmagazine that also covers US issues).

By the time they are publised, books are old news.
