Hello everyone. I will be starting residency soon (sept 1st) and was wondering if there are any 1st year residents (or others) that can fill me in on the types of books or "pocket stuff" that will make this transition from student to resident a little smoother? :)

Welcome to residency.
1.The orange book- The Maudsley handbook of practical psychiatry(0198516096 IsBN) is a great one, however geared to a UK model of training.
2. On-call psychiatry(0721692397) is also OK as a primer.
3. Don't forget your wash manual or ferri-they will come in handy on those on-calls at in-pt unit.
4.There is also a previous thread on some great books to read in this forum-do a search
:)

There are 2 great CCS books- one on Psych drugs and the other is called psychitary. two wonderful pocket books, both dark green and part of the CCS series.

Thanks for the info folks. Do you all have time to read Synopsis, or are there other, better "at home" books to read?
