Hi everyone,
I am a rising MS2 and I was wondering if I could get some advice on purchasing books for second year. I wanted to get some books that are focused on Step 1 prep so I could use them throughout the year and get used to the format rather than opening new books for the first time a few weeks before Step 1.
Does anyone have any experience with the Underground Clinical Vignettes? there seems to be multiple ones out there published by various companies...which ones are better? would these be useful for doing cases and questions during the school year with the rest of the course work?
what are your opinions on the first aid Q & A for step 1 and the first aid cases for step 1 books?
Any other advice on books and studying during second year?

Thank you in advance for your advice!🙂

BRS physio- I know you have already taken physio but for each organ system you should read the section in physio first

A path book- some like BRS path but I really like Goljian's Rapid Review of Pathology. If I were you I would buy RR path over BRS. I used BRS with most of my courses 2nd year then bought RR to try it out for the last few organ systems. RR was far and away better. Come to think of it, dont even waste your time with BRS path

Micro Made ridiculously simple- my personal favorite for micro. Easy to remember with the stupid little pictures and mnemonics.

BRS behavioral science- good book, pretty thorough. Also includes biostats stuff. A bit more thorough than the High yeild BS (ie longer). Some like High Yeild Behavioral science. Both are written by the same person though so it shouldnt make much of a difference.

First Aid-

i agree with the above.

i used BRS physio to re-learn M1 physio (I took it 4 years before M2 because of my MD/PhD schedule) during parts of path (like renal and resp...that stuff never made sense to me). then i used it for step 1.

Rapid Review path + Goljan audio path + Robbins Review of Pathology (the Robbins question book) were great for path and boards.

Clinical micro made ridiculously simple is also a must-have.

I'm drawing a blank as to what other classes I had last year. Must be acute stress disorder from recent Step 1 taking/waiting for scores. Oh, pharm. Yeah, didn't really use any books, just our class notes. Sometimes I looked drugs up in Lippincott's or BRS Pharm is our prof was unclear.

I did not use Underground series for class or step 1 but i know some of my classmates used them for step1. sometimes i did questions from Pre-Test for path or pharm before class exams. It really depends on your school's curriculum how helpful these things are.
