Hey guys,

My interview at Boston University is on the 17th of November. I will be flying out to Boston from Houston a day or two prior to that (cant remember at the moment). As my interview gets closer I am starting to get more and more nervous and scared. I have been studying possible interview questions and writing my own responses. I also have been looking over my AADSAS application, personal statement, and the BU website. I feel like I am not ready for the interview, like I am going to literally just pass out and die any moment.🙁 Any advice that wil help me feel better? I tend to get very nervous in such intense situations. I dont know if I should just be my silly and funny self or be like really serious.

Much appreciated,
Shewdly

Relax!! Just be yourself!!! Practice the general questions like tell me about yourself, why dentistry blah blah blah, you know the deal. It looks like youre' doing all the right things already. Know what you put down on the application and be ready to discuss what you have done. You still got plenty of time, just try to get into the groove and go nail your interview!!! Good luck!!! Oh I forgot to mention this earlier, that's why I am adding this section. DON'T PRATICE TOO MUCH TO THE POINT WHERE YOU HAVE MEMORIZED ANSWERS. That's what happened to me and I realized I sound like a tin man. Good thing my friend was able to catch on to what I was doing prior to my interview.

I totally understand it's easier to say/TYPE then being done. I was SOO nervous before one of my interviews that I couldn't sleep. But hey, that's the best advice I can give you at the moment!!!! Relax!! You'll be fine!! Hope I can hear back some good news from you soon!! By soon I mean the month of Dec:laugh:

Peerless is right. I was really nervous for my first interview and couldn't sleep either. Once you get there though, I promise you, you will be at ease. People will be around you talking and you will become excited more than anything. I think a good trick is try and start the conversation on the way to your interview. Comment on your trip, the city, something you experienced already, don't just follow your interviewer or whoever silently into the room and sit down, waiting to be drilled with questions. Good luck

Actually, I would say that the BU interview is really very relaxed. I interviewed there in October, and unless something has changed (although I suspect you probably already know this) you interview with just one admissions person. It was very much a conversation, with no hard questions whatsoever. I was asked more about my pets than my desire to go into dentistry. My advice is just to relax - everyone who goes is a little on edge, and the admissions people understand this. The night before, go to bed early, eat a nice dinner, watch a movie...just don't think about it. Don't try to be something you aren't at the interview...looking a little nervous is far better than looking fake. Good luck!

are any of you guys flying in from out of state?

im flying in at the end of the month from across the continent.

i wasn't too sure where to stay so i just booked at a Comfort Inn near the airport

do you know if it's far from the school or is it a reasonable distance?

google maps can help you out 👍

you can always take the boston subway systems to get to any location - it's really cheap and easy to navigate. just use hopstop.com to figure out your directions

that's toooooo far! i went to BU for undergrad, and the distance from the airport to the main city is a considerable distance - i'm assuming you'd take a cab - that could run you upwards of $30 just one way, and on top of that, traffic is pretty bad that time of morning. i'd definitely recommend finding someplace closer!

edit: just to add to t time's post, yes, the t is pretty good for getting to pretty much everywhere EXCEPT to bumc. you could get a CT1 bus connection from the hynes convention center t station -- going south, the dental school is the last bus stop on that line.

Thanks for all the comforting replies and a great private message from Kneecoal 🙂. I really appreciate everyones help. I really do hope I can deliver some good news by decemeber, if everything goes as planned, this event will change my life forever.

Sincerely,
Shwedly

thank you kneecoal for your advice!

the distance didn't seem too bad when i booked it but i was worried about the traffic in boston

oh well i guess i'll just leave half an hr earlier than usual

best of luck in your interviews

I know it's natural to be nervous at an interview, but try not to be. Think of it from the perspective of the admissions committee. Their job is to select people to become future dentists. Dentists regularly have conversations with strangers. Dentists also need to convince these strangers (patients) to agree to procedures that may be both expensive and uncomfortable. Your job at the interview is to show the interviewer that you can have a conversation with a random stranger without getting flustered or angry or stumped.

My interviewer at BU was awesome - we ended up talking about all different kinds of things.

One final piece of advice: in any interview, I think you should have a goal of explaining what you like about the curriculum of the school, and why you would want to live in that city for 4 years. Good luck!

wierd...i had my apps for both boston schools in way early, my stats are decent i think, but haven't heard from either....seems like every1 else is hearing from them already.

btw; the biggest thing for me is to have a bunch of questions ready to ask. I think that's consistent with every interview i've had, questions really give you more time with interviewer and allows for even more conversation. gives you a chance to make a more lasting impression. I also find it helpful to talk about things other than academics, life experiences, morales, etc. etc.

I am very curious to know what your stats is like. I applied for Boston U too but I still haven't heard from them probably b/c they still haven't received my DAT score yet (I just took the Canadian DAT recently on Nov 7).

If you mean morals, I would be careful. Everyone's morals are not the same.

eh sorry i guess not necessarily morales, more like values. But I don't think morales are such a bad thing...unless you really have some wierd ones.

I had everything in july 30th! still haven't heard back from them...
