Sooo... my fiance got an interview from BIDMC, that lucky @#$%! anyway, I don't have any interviews in Boston yet and so he is demanding that I apply to Boston Univ. MC despite the fact that I know nothing about it. There is nothing on Scutwork and a search of this forum turned up nothing, at least from the past 2 years that I could find.

Tell me... is there anything wrong with the BUMC program that I should know about? Would I be better off just going to Worcester and trying to split the distance with my fiance? (I did a driveby of the UMass new ED and it was sparkly and beautiful, I was very sold)

I interviewed there 2 years ago... I think it's a solid program, for whatever that's worth. WakeMedHeel is a resident there. You might want to PM him.

thanks for the tip! when I went to apply on ERAS I realized one potential (MAJOR) issue - it appears to be 2-4, and I didn't apply to any TY or prelim programs, nor do I particularly want to.... 🙂

will have to give this a bit more thought.

BUMC will automatically rank you to match into their prelim program, so that if you match into their 2-4 EM you can do your prelim year there as well. But you still have to apply to the prelim program separately (even though there is no interview needed).

I rotated there this summer and Loved it.

I rotated there earlier this fall and had a great experience. Seems like a solid program and a great place to train. People were great and the PD is awsome. I was told that because of their location, they get about 75% of the traumas in the Boston area. Also, there patient population tends to be more diverse than the other hospitals in Boston.
They are probably weaker in research compared to the other Boston programs. That being said, there are definitely research opportunities for those interested. I feel the program offers a nice blend of academics and clinical experience.

As mentioned above, if you match into the EM program, they automatically guarantee you a prelim med spot if you want it. The philosophy is that if you're a strong enough applicant to match into there EM program, then they would love to have you as an intern. I was told the prelim med year is pretty tough but you come out a Bad A$$.

In my opinion, if you're looking to stay in Boston this program should be at the top of your list.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
