I got accepted to Boston University today, and now im debating if i should go to Western Univeristy in California or not? (im still waiting to hear from my dream school USC)
I already put a 2000 dollar deposit down at Western (I can still cancel my check of 1000 dollars that i sent 2 days ago), my man of 4+ years is attending the Boston medical school in fall, so I have a reason to go there.
I am a CA resident and Its difficult for me to separate from my family and the awesome weather🙂. I wasnt really feeling Boston, and I hate the cold, but the school itself was very nice. Also several schools such as USC medical school takes transfer students after their 2nd year, so we were thinking about a transfer option for him if I decide to stay in CA. Boston requires a deposit of 3000 dollars within 15 days...

I know for a fact that I later in the future want to work and live in CA, and I thought if it will just be a hassle to go to the east cost?
I also know that Boston U is a more well known and established school than Western, and they also have great specialty programs and research opportunities.

Both schools will have about the same tuition.
Beside these factors, I would like to know more about the schools... should I stay or should I go?

If you can handle long distance go ahead and stay in CA. 2000 bucs is a lot of mula to waste. Cost of living is around the same for both areas, but as you said you don't like the cold.

I need more single ladies at BU any way buwahahah jp but damn, doctor dad and dentist mom make for very spoiled children.

if you plan on getting married with this significant other, then Boston would be the way to go if the prices are similar.

Reasons to choose Western (based on what you said) are above.

That said, how sure are you that he could/would transfer to USC 2nd year? If you guys are pretty positive he could do that, then it seems to me that Western is the way to go for you. If not, then you guys would have to decide if you could handle being apart for 4 years. I would not want to be away from my fiance that long. I would have gone crazy by now if it weren't for his support.

It would be more of a hassle to do licensure things on the east coast if you want to practice in CA, especially since CA is likely going to the portfolio licensure method for students who attended CA dental schools (ie. you wouldn't have to take the WREB or whatever the CA one is).

Speaking from experience, it is hard to be across the country from your family. I have missed out on weddings, birthdays, spending time with my grandmother in the days before she died, etc all because I am 2000 miles away.

Either school will give you a good education. You just have to weigh your options and decide what is more important to you and what works for your particular situation. Good luck! 🙂

There is no guarantee that he can transfer to USC. If this fellow is going to be your future husband, then you should seriously consider putting down a deposit for Boston. Long distance relationships are tough. I don't like cold weather either, but Boston is actually a nice city. It would probably be fun to explore a new city together with your man.

Thanks so much for your words, it put some thought in my head🙂 . I actually had no idea about that portfolio licensure method, I just read about it on ADA.

Strongly agree. Except for the cold weather part. Pomona has great weather, but Boston is gonna suck balls. If you were born and raised in central or southern CA, then be prepared to freeze your arse off.

Personally, I would choose BU. Give Western another few years to work out the kinks. USC is crazy expensive though. Are you taking the HPSP or getting major scholarships?

I vote BU because its an amazing school and your significant other is going to BU med which is AMAZING too and he really shouldn't transfer from it because its soooo good

I would say it all depends on the type of relationship your in. If you see a future with this person, I would say BU!

2000 isn't that much in the grand scheme of things though.

Which school would be cheaper? How much? That might cancel out the deposits you have placed already.

Were you on the alternate list for BU, or did you just get straight accepted?

So I received a merit scholarship from Boston University of 10 000 dollars/year.So im choosing Boston over Western.

Now Im just waiting to hear from USC, so i can make a final decision.

Congrats for getting the scholarship! Have you decline your spot at Western yet?
