Here are some questions for everyone:

Arrange these into increasing order of 1) BP 2) MP 3) Solubility

Acetic Acid
Ethanol
Formaldehyde
Butane
2-methyl butane
Propanone
Ethanamide
Ethanamine

Add to my list if you want. Explain what characteristics effect the BP, MP, Solubility.

BP acid > ethanol > ethanamide > ethanamine > butane > 2 methyl butane >propanone > formaldehyde .... I not sure if ketone have lower boiling point than alkane or not.... someone work it out please,

Also I think we could add alkene and alkyne in that list too.

acetic acid > ethanol > ethanamide > propanone > formaldehyde > ethyene > ethene > butane > 2-methyl butane

I always get confused with MP. Can some1 plz arrange according to the MP?

That's why I posted this. I always get messed up with these basic concepts.

I know that solubility depends on the ability of the solvent to bond with the solute. IE Solubility is: Dipole - Ion interaction > H Bonding > Dipole- Dipole > van der Waal forces.

So base on the freezing point, can you tell the melting point? for example low freezing point will have low melting point since in the Phase diagram melting and freezing are on the same line..is this correct?

on destroyer it says saturated fats have higher MP than unsaturated

since sat...has single bonds and unsat. has double bonds does that mean single bonds have higher MP than double and triple bonds....but the BP of doulbe and triple are higher than single?
