This question references a table in which HF and ADA diets are compared to a baseline w.r.t. glycosylated Hb. The data shows reduced glycosylated Hb on ADA and HF diets but then the answer key claims the correct answer is D - decrease is beneficial because it indicates persistent high plasma glucose. I thought the correct answer would be C - decrease is beneficial because it indicates persistent low plasma glucose.

Can someone from BR comment on why D is the correct answer over C. Or is it a typo? Is there an errata for the Berkeley Review books anywhere?

It's not a typo. Decrease is beneficial because "glycosylated hemoglobin" indicates persistent levels of high plasma glucose. High glucose ---> high G-Hb
 
I don't mean to be dense, but this still doesn't make sense. If " High glucose ---> high G-Hb", then "Low glucose ---> low G-Hb", right? How does a decrease in G-Hb indicate persistent high plasma glucose? Wouldn't it indicate persistent low plasma glucose instead?

I dont have the question but from what I know glycosylated hemoglobin which is HgbA1C high levels indicate that the red blood cells was exposed to high levels of plasma glucose and that glucose binds to the hemoglobin so high levels of HgbA1C = high plasma glucose and so the beneficial thing would be to have low levels hgba1c.

I am not from BR, but I'm pretty sure that this is just bad/confusing grammar sort of, on their part.

The it they're talking about is the glycosylated hemoglobin. So better written, that sentence would say, "Decrease in glycosylated Hb is beneficial, because glycosylated Hb indicates persistent high plasma glucose."

Sort of like saying, "Not wearing a broken parachute is beneficial, because it would lead to your death." Bad grammar.

Don't have the book though, so I might be totally misunderstanding.
 
Yes - now that you put it that way I think I see the light - probably what ThirdEye and the other poster were trying to tell me all along...
