BR physics equations

They have a lot of equations in boxes which I assume are what they consider to be important, but for those of you who took the exam, do we really need to memorize these? For example J = -nev and rho = E/J do we need to know stuff like that?

Why does EK say that we don't need to know or use the quadratic formula, while BR is going to town with it?

Hey all, am new to this site and studying for the MCAT. I recently ordered all the BR stuff (it was cheaper than a class---can we say recession?) but i was wondering if someone can help me figure out what BR is talking about when they use the graphical estimation technique in the first chapter of the physics book about vectors. Maybe i have been out of school too long but I do not remember i have learned it. I know its a stupid question but rather than solving problems the long way i would love to know the short cuts for exam? Please Help!!!
