Hi, I am going down to Bradenton Florida tomorrow to take the LECOM-Bradenton School of Pharmacy tour and was wondering if anyone who has been down there to look at apartments or for someone who currently lives down there have any opinions on the best apartments. I will be apartment hunting right after the tour. Thanks.

Hey,
good luck in your search. I'm doing the same thing next Monday. Could you please post your findings when you get back. I'd really appreciate it, as would others. Difficult to find info online.

I already posted this under the Housing Thread, but I felt like it might be worthwile to repeat it....

I'm a 3rd yr who has already lived in Bradenton for two years... Here's some advice I have on the housing situation:
The school (if you haven't been there) is in a very new and up-coming community- Lakewood Ranch. It's all new and nice and beautiful, but because of that, it's pricey.

My first year I lived at Fountain Lake Apartments, near the corner of 70 and US-41. This was about 12 miles West of school. The bonus- it was in an older area of Bradenton and a lot cheaper. I got a 950 sq ft apt for $600 a month. I was closer to the beach, but still about 10 miles away. The minus- traffic in the morning is horrid. Driving the 12 miles down 70 to get to school took about 40-45 minutes. I really began to dread the drive, even before anatomy was over. Many classmates who lived in Lakewood Ranch would go home for lunch, especially if we had an hr or two break in the afternoon. I always felt stuck at school all day long. I also felt like I wasted a lot of my day in the car.

So my second year, I decided I wanted to move closer to school. Even though I would be farther from the beach, I'd rather take the extra time to drive to the beach on the weekends then drive farther every day trying to get to school. I really didn't want to shell out the money for what I felt were overpriced apartments, so I ended up renting a house in Lakewood Ranch. This turned out to be a great decision, and I would recommend it to anyone. I had the luxury of driving around the neighborhood to look for houses for rent, but I'm sure there are many postings online. I think Lakewood Ranch Realty may have a site even. I was able to rent a 3bd/2ba 1500 sq foot house for $1500 a month, and divided the rent with two other roommates. The house was very affordable, and I was only 2.5 miles from school- my garge to my seat in pbl was 7 mins. ;-)

Everyone has different priorities when looking for housing. I wanted something reasonably priced, and a location where I wasn't wasting an hr or more a day driving to and from school. Renting a house in Lakewood Ranch turned out to be perfect.

Pick up an Apartment Guide booklet in a 7-11.

I've been living in Bradenton for the past 6.5 years, and have found the rents increasing a lot. A big reason is that many apartment complexes had converted to condos due to greed. If you can financially can do it, because there is more of a glut of co-ops...it may be cheaper for you to actually by a co-op (1-bdrm for $100K) versus $700+ for a small one-bedroom (508 sq ft, which I have).

New houses are being constructed in many parts of the city. These houses also have a decent price tag attached to them. This is where you can find houses at an affordable price in some of the finest of localities in the city.
