I am posting for a loved one of mine who is considering a move to Washington DC. She specializes in brain injury care after completing a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation; do you know of any good job opportunities or places that you would recommend? Thank you all in advance for your help!

I would look at NRH but that is about all I know about DC. Sorry!

I read the title and didn't know if it was an Obama or Pelosi thread.

that was some low hanging fruit.

there is a TBI unit at NRH. id say its about average -- not great, not bad. there is currently one TBI specialist (I think) who is pretty good. i would call it serviceable, but by no means groundbreaking.

Would shake the VA tree.

I've received several emails from recruiters re; physiatrists for the VA to do a mishmash of stuff, but including screening for TBIs for the troops involved in IED incidents.

Also, have her try to contact Kernann (sp?) outside of Baltimore. When I applied for privileges, they were looking for someone to cover their Neuro/TBI inpatient service. This was two months ago.

most of the combat TBIs go to walter reed.

there is no inpt rehab unit at the DC VA. there is one physiatrist and she spends most of her time in wheelchair clinics -- at least that was the case 2 years ago.

All VAs got a mandate three years ago to institute/implement screening clinics for TBIs/postconcussive syndromes in active duty/Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom vets. This was being implemented at the Ann Arbor VA my last year during residency. Don't know if this was cancelled.

Rewarding work...liked the vet population, but TBIs...ugh.

Thank you everyone, we have started looking in all of these systems (except Baltimore just because of distance and traffic). If you have more ideas, keep em coming.

Cheers,
Thymeless
