Breaking: Personal statements must include program-specific paragraph

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So now that most of the first round of invites are out. Any new insights into the process? Is it easier or harder than you thought it would be?
Program-specific statement requirement was ineffective at significantly lowering the number of applications submitted by applicants (average per applicant went from 64.9 to 61.9). https://www.aamc.org/services/eras/stats/ Just created busywork.

Thanks for posting the link. The number of applications per person may not have changed significantly, but it looks like the number of U.S. And Canadian applicants is down from 438 to 362. That's a 17% change! The IMG numbers are down too.

Do you think the difficulty in matching is causing people to re-think applying to ENT or are a lot of people looking into research years?

Does anyone know if U.S. reapplicants are part of the 362 figure?
ERAS data shows how many U.S. grads match (think it was 15 last year), but do we know out of how many?

How many PGY-1 otolaryngology residency positions are there for the 2016 Match? There were 299 last year, but several programs that I have interviewed with this year have told me that they thought they might be adding a spot. When does that decision get made?

Frieda and charting outcomes in the match are places to get information. The number will not change significantly (such that it would change the chance of your matching).
