Good Afternoon Everyone,

I wanted to ask the community about this program at MWU AZ and IL and get your opinion about the pre-acceptance into the CDMI as long as you maintain and fulfil some of the school requirements for the masters degree Program such as a cGPA of a 3.2, being a mentor in the bridges program, achieving a TS and AA of an 18 or above and etc...

When I called the school, they stated that the masters program and the bridges program are two seperate things and that being part of the bridges program allows underrepresented minorities and environmentally disadvantaged students to have a clear pathway into dental school. The masters program alone only guarantees you an interview. The school supposedly started this program this year. Does this sound too good to be true? I already took the DAT and scored an 18 both AA and TS and do come from an environmentally challenging environment.

Thank you so much

I would be very hesitant to do this program.

The yearly tuition is 41k, and can be another 20k for living costs, and then MWU itself will cost at least 100k per year with living costs. Minimum cost is 500k to get out.

Can you focus on retaking your DAT and getting a better score? What state residency are you? I would aim for an instate school.

I am from Michigan and I know that getting a masters from MWU will be costly, however, I know other dental students with almost the same amount of loans just like I would be if I attended MWU masters program and dental school. I didn't graduate much with loans while in undergrad and in dental hygiene (around 10K) with two bachelors. I don't mind the cost of living if it means getting into the program that Ive been trying so hard to get into. Ive toured the school in the past and fell in love with the atmosphere. Retaking the DAT is an option however, my gpa also needs a boost and doing this masters first and seeing if I can get in is the better option in my opinion because I know an 18 can still get me in (of course a higher DAT will make an acceptance much easier) but, practicing as a dental guygienist (hygienist LOOL) for almost two years now has given me more of a confidence boost to do great in the interview and have a lot to talk about during any interview for any school.

Im from Michigan and there is Detroit Mercy and UofM of Ann Arbor. In my opinion, Detroit Mercy is over rated and the school is lacking in terms of equipment and etc... I graduated from there with my hygiene degree and all I can say is that it felt like prison. That is why I want to apply out of state.

I applied to this program as well! my DAT is 20AA and 20 TS and I am in-state
When I spoke to the admission on the phone, they stated that they "guaranteed seats for the students in the bridges program" as long as you meet their requirements such as DAT of 18 and above, 3.2 and above for the gpa and etc... Do you think the school will actually hold their promise?

Did you factor in accrued interest? It’s probably more like $650,000+ just for the dental school portion. Then tack on that $50,000+ you spent to get your foot in the door. It’s easily $700,000+. You’d be out of your mind to do this!

My bad. Was trying to be nice 😆

100% agree this program’s cost would be insanity. You should post that cactus meme like you did on the other thread on how it’ll feel to pay it back 😂

OP with current HYG demand esp I’d stay where you are. Many hyg are getting paid the same sometimes more than my new grad dentist friends.

Misery loves company.
