Hi, I start d school this year and I was wondering:
Do you guys think it's worth bringing old textbooks to d school? I've still got my old Chem/Anat books and I definitely am glad I held onto them because I have used them as references here...but that's going to be a lot of effort (& money) to get them to school.

p.s. - it's been a while since I took some of my prereq's.

depends on the course. If it's something like physiology and biochem, definitely bring it. If it's anatomy, HELL YESS!!! For anatomy, bring all the atlas's and textbooks you can find, Gray's, Moore's, Grant's, Netters, whatever you used. Chemistry and organic chem, not so much. General bio, good idea if you need a rough overview of a topic before going into specifics.

phy, biochem, anatomy, histology.. basic science courses...

Bring what you can. My histology book from UG was the same book for DS. I started DS $65 ahead😀

bring every book you can. better to have it then not....

definately get a netter's if you didn't use one for undergrad....it's the best thing i've bought ot get me through anatomy. plus it's really expensives in the schools. try to get it online wen it's really cheap!

Thanks for the responses, I was just about to give everything away. As for the Netter's...it's about $90 online, although I didn't search around for a used one. Is that cheaper than at the schools?

get an earlier edition of Netters for cheaper (also, get it at Amazon's Marketplace). I used a 3rd edition, and it was sufficient for studying. If your school's anatomy course requires cadaver dissection, get yourself a photo atlas as well. I used Rohen's color atlas of anatomy, and thought it was pretty useful. It's nice for visualizing anatomic structures since drawings in Netters are often exaggerated (for ex, muscles are too big, veins are too big, etc).

Textbooks are generally cheaper online - of course I like using new books. When you buy them in the bookstore you are paying a premium to take them home right away and study them. If you KNOW you need one ahead of time (and you have the $$$) just buy it now online.

I kept most of my books from undergrad - and used them them frequently to refresh topics that I had studied extensively - it provided more rapid recall and less time studying the second time around.

Well unlike the other posters, I don't think you need to bring your old undergrad books unless you absolutely loved them. Class notes, handouts, and the textbooks you buy while in school are plenty. I did purchase a Netter's and a a few review books in biochem and physiology, but other than that you should be fine. Save the space and leave the undergrad books home.

You're probably going to want to buy the text books the professor recommends. You don't want to have to look up all the information up in your own book. A lot of professors will reference information out of the book and its nice to have the same book that the professor has.

I would like to have the option to buy or not, but I don't think I do - I think our books is included in tuition (UoP). Anybody know if I'm right?
