Thoughts on best places to live in the Bribane area and why.

Places close to campus (cheaper $?), or (even better) not too far from campus and closer to a beach 🙂

Also, any thoughts on couples housing.

Thanks all

I stay in a rented room next door to UQ, cost about 7k AUD pa with electricity, internet and water. Brisbane is about an hour and a half from the beach. Best places I feel is St Lucia, Taringa, Toowong, Indooroopilly.

wow - that's inexpensive - thanks for the info.

What are your thoughts for commuting to UQ from the city? Tough commute?

Easy. You can take city cat or the bus to city. 2 buses go to city 412 and 411 and both have adequate timings

Hi there!

I found out that you live in Brisbane and that you're a student. I'm gonna move to Brisbane in three months and accommodation is something that I am really concerned about. Could you plz gimme a lil bit of info about how should I find a decent place. Also I'd be thankful if you could plz tell me whether you live in a shared house or what... 7k pa seems far less than what I see in realestate.com.au

Thanks
Nan

how the hell to you only pay 7k/year? you must have 20 flatmates or live in a box. or is it really that cheap in brisbane? my current rent would cost me 12k/year with no utilities included except hot h20. granted i dont have 20 flatmates (i have 1) and i dont live in a box (but i do live in lower north shore Sydney).

Brisbane is substantially cheaper than Sydney. I pay $190/week for my place, which comes out to about $10k/year... when I was still debating between Sydney and Brisbane, I saw plenty of livable places in Brisbane for $130ish (< $7k).

Actually, if you don't mind commuting a little bit, you can find plenty of places in Sydney for $130 too. I've seen decent apartments for that price in areas like Petersham and Lewisham, which are about 10-15 minutes from campus by bus or 15 minutes to the CBD by train.

Depends on what you define as decent accomodation. The house I live in doesnt have a TV or living room. It has a kitchen and 6 rooms which I live in one of them. Its a small room but has all utilities covered at $135 pw. This coming Feb, its increasing to $155 pw.

I live along Upland Road, St Lucia which is pretty much at the heart of UQ campus

It is really cheap in Brisbane, its one of the reasons why I choose to come UQ. I do live in a small room but has a bed, table, cupboard and chairs. Its enough for me...

Yeah I think Sydney is overpriced compared to the rest of the capital cities, however I suppose that's the price of living in the largest city in the country.
