I'm pretty sure that I have a broken toe from running into a doorway while I was barefoot last night. Why am I so stupid sometimes?? I have an interview at one of my top schools on Thursday, and I'm not sure I will be able to wear my heels with my suit. My suit is tailored for my heel height. Do any of you ladies have any idea what I should do? I guess I figure that there aren't really any treatment options for broken toes, so I just need to suck it up.

Oh my goodness, that sucks! I'm sorry to hear that. I do that crap all the time too. My advice would be to tape it up and start an ibuprofen regimen right about now (and remember an extra dose Thusday morning)! And don't wear ANY shoes this week if at all possible. By the time Thursday rolls around, hopefully you'll be in good enough shape to wear those heels. Keep sneaks in the car so you can minimize the amount of time you have to wear the heels. They're not the pointy-tip ones, are they? Those always just look so painful...

See if you can find a good pair of shoes that are wide in the toe. Also, do the buddy taping thing. And if you have to wear flats, you can always hem your pants temporarily with some duct tape. Or, you can go all out and find a full foot and ankle cast thing, a pair of crutches, and pull the sympathy card on your interviewers. And then of course, a great story to go along with how you shattered every bone in your foot and you will be having surgery in a few hours, all because you jumped off the roof of a burning building holding a child in your arms, and hte only reason you ran into the building was to save this kid. Add a few hacking coughs for good measure.

Seriously though, I hope you feel better soon. Put some ice on it to help with swelling and try to keep it elevated as much as you can.

best of luck! try putting that head-on stuff on your toe 🙂

If it's actually broken, you may need a a wrap... it might be difficult/impossible to wear heels. I would take the pants to a seamstress and get a pinned hem that isn't sewn if its possible. Wear flats; don't be in agony for your interview!

It's ok to actually be human during an interview.

If you have a broken toe, accomidate it. Buddy tape it and wear a shoe that will work with it and do whatever else you need to. Explain it to your interviewer and your interviewer will understand. They're doctors, they want you to be healthy.

I can't comment on the clothing thing, but I twisted my knee bad a week before my KCUMB interview. Things happen, and you have to get through it. It sucked, but I made it with the help of loads of naproxen and a Wal Mart bought knee brace. Fortunately, when my doctor checked it out, it was not as bad as it felt. Good luck.

Good one! I have both the skirt and the pants, so I was thinking about wearing the skirt with a pair of flats even though I'll look sort of dumb. Getting a temporary hem and wearing flats could also be an option. The last time I broke a toe was several years ago when I was playing college soccer, and the over-protective athletic trainers had me in a big boot for about a month, but I'll just buddy-tape it and take drugs this time.
I know that talking about what to wear seems sort of trivial, but this school has been my dream since I was a senior in high school and I want to bring my A-game!

My older brother one time broke his hand two days before his med school interview, had to have it in a cast and everything. Of course, the reason he broke his hand was that we were all at a club one night, and we got into a bar fight. Luckily he spun it in a good light with his interviewers ( 'I was trying to resolve the conflict peacefully, but they were very intoxicated and started to attack my friends, so I had to go in and help defend ourselves'). And he got in. haha

You know, now that I think about it, I still might have my removable cast that I wore when I tore a tendon in my wrist. It's this big plastic thing that goes up to my elbow. And I still have my aircast from when I tore up my ankle and refused a normal cast, although it's not quite as noticeable, is it? I wouldn't really be able to pull the sympathy thing unless I say, look I have an aircast on my ankle. Too bad I got rid of my crutches

Seriously though, I think it would be a hoot if someone came in on crutches or whatever for the interview, thinking they wouldn't have a chance otherwise, and hten as they're leaving, they start dancing and jumping in the parking lot, and their interviewer sees them, but it's too late because the evaluation is already in!
