Brown Interview > Acceptance?

Nope, no love from Penn. But i'm over Penn. I don't actually work there, i work for a private practice that is affiliated, but i DO take post-bacc courses there. Although, last year, the director of admissions pretty much told me not to apply because they had plenty of "qualified applicants from princeton" when she heard my gpa. The more time i spend there though, the less i like it. I'm not overly impressed wtih the attitudes of the students that i've met. i'd be much happier at a lot of other places i've interviewed and/or been accepted. I don't really think i'd fit at Penn anymore, although i used to love it.

ouch! what attitude!!! 😱

I find it interesting how some top schools are very much numbers schools, like WashU, which has a 3.91, 37 average 😱😱😱, while other top schools like UCLA, UCSF have reasonably high averages of like 33-35 and 3.7-3.8 but are still in the same league and are still very much sought out. I think that speaks a lot to the kind of students those two types of top schools attract and the kind of class environment they have.

I'd much rather be at a school with very interesting people than at a school with stellar averages stocked with gunners

Exactly. This is how i feel as well, so i'm not too concerned anymore with the lack of penn love.
ps i really don't stand out so much in the green suit. It's an olive green that could sorta seem brown or grey, it's dark and looks professional enough that it doesn't stand out much. But it will be a prettty good indicator of who i am haha.

Oh god am i starting to get nervous. It's funny because I really haven't been nervous for any of these yet, but this time i really really am. I think just because I want it so badly. And i woke up this morning with a stuffy nose, i can't stop sneezing, and my throat is all scratchy. Can I will myself out of getting sick for this important day?

Doublecourtin, are you there already? I know you said you were getting in pretty early today. I won't get in until around midnight cuz i have a loonnggg drive and can't leave till after work/rush hour. Which means an extra five hours to sit in the car by myself and get more nervous. Tell us all how beautiful it is and how much you love it there!

Yay! Say hi to Providence for me!!!😀

aaj, don't be nervous! You're such a super fit for Brown. And it's a 40% chance of getting in if you got to interview!! You'll do awesome!!!

Hey, how about you guys let us know how it goes? My interview is only in late January. Boo.
But I'd love to hear how it went, what kind of feel you got, etc.

i will definitely let you know how it goes!! I will post about it by the end of the weekend, when i'm back in philly. Thanks for your support guys! I'm trying to be less nervous but i'm definitely not being as productive as usual here at work today.

Brown totally kicks ASS!!!!!!

Was totally blown away. Everything was terrific, but the best part was the people: administration, faculty, and students. Everyone is really happy there and super excited about brown!

Let's all keep our fingers crossed

:scared:

be happy to answer any of your questions.

the feel i got was that students are very happy, administration and faculty are INCREDIBLY caring, and resources are unparalleled.👍

Brown was in fact, fabulous. The new curriculum seem great, perfectly integrated, and the students love it, and were so nice. I stayed with a student the night after my interview and she was amazing, and had great things to say. I walked around providence with my cousin all day yesterday and it was adorable.
Unfortunately, i think Brown is a distant dream for me at this point. My interviews did not go very well. The first one i just didn't click with my interviewer, and i don't think he thought very highly of me. All of my answers just seemed like they weren't enough. and he had been running late but i had another interview scheduled after it so we had to cut it short so that i could get to the other one. Then i ran across the hospital and got to the next one and was thinking about how badly i messed up the first one and was all nervous and ended up messing up that one. I do not forsee an acceptance in my future.
At the end of the day there is a question/answer session with dean wiess, who is awesome. He was really nice and gave me hope again, although i'm afriad it will be shot down come december 22nd.
But to sum up this long long post, Brown was every bit as fabulous as i expected.

Hey aaj,

Don't lose hope!!!. Most people seem to think that there is no correlation between how you felt your interviews went and your chances.

I also think since we interviewed really early, it will play in our favor.

I would also send an update if you have any

Good luck! :luck::luck::luck:

Yeah, everyone seemed really nice, even people in Providence.

I still would love to get an interview there. I'm losing hope now. Sent an update letter over a week ago and haven't heard anything back. Oh well...

Good luck!:luck:. I know, it's a very tough process 🙁

Thanks. It is. I've gotten interviews at other schools which I thought were equally competitive and it seemed like my profile (as a non-trad) would make me an even better fit for Brown. Well, there's no point in second guessing it all. I've been complete since 10/2 and I think I won't be taking any trips to Providence over the next few months. Good luck to you all!

yeah, I think they are definitely into non-trad types, from what i've seen in current students and my fellow interviewees, there was definitely a majority of those who've taken time off to travel and/or do research. i think they like international experience, but other than that, who knows? 😕

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

That sounds fabulous! I'm super excited for the interview, and even without being there, have this great feeling about the school. Also, I live only 20 minutes, so it would be great to get accepted into the school closest to home!

But an interview does not an acceptance make so I'm trying not to get my hopes up....

yeah, prepare yourself for VIP treatment. They interview fewer than 200 people for 30 spots, so you should feel REAL good about yourself.

Statistically speaking, they are THE HARDEST school to get into, even harder than Mayo. They get like 3000-4000 applications for 30 spots. They have a med school shuttle that to and from the hospital, to your interview, and to the airport/bus station.

I hope it all works out for people on this thread, let it be the ":luck:Official Brown Med Magic Thread:luck:"

I'm glad you guys loved Brown so much! I can't wait to go there. I will be in Vermont on Jan 22 and Brown on the 24th. It's going to be a fun week!

Hey hereicome,

I am at Brown on the 24th also! Awesomeness.

And I too have an interview on the 22nd. Cool beans. 😀

I'm not sure if you are guys are in luck or just out of luck with having a Nov 15th date. Admissions told me they send out their first round of decisions on Nov 16th. This may mean you get just in, but possibly the admissions committee meets the day before that. So you may have to wait a month or two to hear back. But don't worry. They have an almost 50% acceptance rate from interviews.
And I hope to see you guys there in August also
So did you end up hearing in november? we want news!!!!
It's funny how everyone in this thread seems to be intervieweing in pairs, good luck hereicome and cardboardearin! Doublecourtin and i should find out Dec. 22nd... the waiting game stinks.

I interviewed 11/29. I thought they said we would hear 12/21 - am I misremembering the date? (The 22nd is a Saturday, for what it's worth.)

Good luck everyone! :luck: !

I think this thread has good aura. Let's hope some good news will be coming our way shortly😎

they said their meeting is the evening of the 21st, and they'll update it that night. unfortunately i plan to be driving from philadelphia to long island, stuck in traffic all night because of the holiday and the very few ways to get onto the island...and won't be able to check the internet until the morning of the 22nd (possibly around 2am).

So being from CA, I guess I should expect this question a lot: " Why not stay in sunny CA, where it never snows, and go to a UC med school, why do you want to move to New England and endure brutal weather 9/12 months in the year?"

How do I dissuade them from thinking that I am likely to stay in CA? Any suggestions?😕😕😕

i hate that question. they always ask sometihng like that. they swear like CA is the best state or somthing and you must be crazy to want to leave it. ridiculous.

California is pretty lame, if you ask me

I have a love/hate relationship with this state. Half the time I get pissed off by traffic, smog, or douchebags and want to get the F out, and half the time I find something I love about it... grr.

I'm also a Brown M1 now and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about the school, Providence, med school in general, etc. (at least from my perspective). However, I don't check the forums very much anymore, so just message me with any questions and I'll get back to you when I can. Good luck, and for anyone interviewing on Thursday, I'll see you at the admissions breakfast.
