Hey everyone!

Long time lurker, first time posting...I wanted to get some opinions from you all.

Basically I've been doing really well in class and I also noticed that I pretty much know everything in BRS physiology (like 80-90% right on all the chapter questions). I've even read ahead for material we haven't covered yet and been able to smoke those questions (not trying to brag, just give perspective how I'm doing). I heard from some friends that physiology is super important for USMLE STEP1, so I wanted to see if you guys thought I can expect to crush STEP1 next year? I feel really confident with the book and wondered if this would translate on exam day.

Thoughts?

Open first aid and ask yourself how many pages of the entire book are physiology.

Physiology is important. But specifically for the step 1, it's only one subject out of many. Keep doing well in all classes. That will be the sign you are looking for
Thanks for the input! I have been doing well almost the whole year now. I thought that if you know normal physiology you can get a good handle on diseases. Do you have an idea what score people usually get from doing well on the BRS physio? I also have been doing well on the BRS Gross Anatomy. Does that add anything to your perspective??

thanks again

You've caught me at a unique time as I'm currently very close to taking step so I'm at the absolute height of my knowledge about the content and the exam. Also on a good track for an excellent score (cross fingers)

Let me be extra clear; doing well on BRS has no trusthworthy correlation with step 1 . There is no way to predict your score at this time. The best prediction capacity we have is doing practice NBME exams. These don't apply to you since you haven't done 2nd year material yet. For countless experiences of others, there is a step 1 experiences thread from 2015 on SDN that is a gold mine of information. That's where you should start.

Thanks. I hope you keep making good progress and have a good exam day when it comes!

Your pathology/treatment classes will have a much higher correlation with step 1 and are also harder than phys

You're gonna get pathophysio mainly on step 1. Each question is multidisciplinary.

You'll probably do fine on step 1 but no one has a crystal ball. The most important subject is pathophysiology then pathology. Anatomy is very small

Don't neglect Pharm either - something that I don't remember really being discussed in BRS physio or my first year physio class, but always comes up a fair amount in Step 1 practice tests/UWorld questions/at the end of every chapter in First Aid books

Why would it come up in physio? You should have a dedicated pharm class...

@OP, I've always heard BRS poorly correlates to boards overall. Although its called "Board Review Series", it's more for class review.

@Rekt officially it wouldn't ... I think my professor commented on the basics of ACE inhibitors and stuff like that, but I'm really just trying to tell the OP that Step 1 is more than just physic and anatomy

The consensus is BRS physiology, biochem/molecular bio are good for step1... The other ones are not so good but are ok for your classes....

BRS physiology is not very difficult though.
You're the only one coming into the thread with zero to offer in the way of help and it seems like you're trying to make us believe you're superior to us...I'm betting you didn't do as well as I'm doing so you're being a sore loser and offering nothing to the conversation except a probably negative post. Thanks for stopping by, chief.

Everyone else in the thread gets a legitimate thanks from me 🙂

lmao

For boards, path, pharm and micro >>>>> physio and anatomy

That's great that you're doing so well in physio, because it will serve you well, but don't let it give you false confidence.

It's like you can see into my soul. I have a confession to make to everyone.
I'm sorry I couldn't be truthful with you all at first.
I do real bad when I do BRS and I only do ok on my class tests. I only lied because ya'll are dang intimidating so I tried hard to fit in but I really wanted to know if low BRS and low class means low STEP1. 😳
plz help with new answers:scared:

Hardly...I guess I'm a troll for admitting on SDN that I'm not a mega genius?

I think you'll fail step 1, better get ready for nursing school
This is one of the main reasons I felt the need to change my story at first...it was only a matter of time before the 6 foot 5, 275 STEP 1, 450 lb bench press, full ride to an IVY guy came out to "give some advice"...:dead:

No, you're a troll for pretending to be a mega-genius and then backpedaling in the same thread.

Keep studying, figure out what your weaknesses are, and work on them. Focus on your classes and worry about boards in second year. Most people pass the boards, you probably will too.

Right, because I'm the one calling people names or trying to instigate. After everyone was being nicer than anticipated I felt like I could have been honest from the start. I don't need you to believe me. 🙄

Only thing you need is less SDN and more studying

Not sure if people want your "legitimate thanks"

You don't come across as particularly, eh, grateful...

Take a look back at the first 13 posts in the thread. Many of them are helpful. I'm thankful for those who posted serious, nonnegative replies. Now, I do enjoy my fair share of slanted news and reporting, so I can appreciate the out-of-context quotes you have from me. While I may have made less than rosy comments, they were in a context where someone else said something first. I guess this really comes down to those people who received my thanks and whether they want my thanks or not (luckily for them, you don't decide). Chances are that no one cares in either case because I said "thanks" over a message board. If you want to say something helpful, I still will thank you (if that's what this is really about, I can definitely include you in my gratitudes).

Not sure what you are babbling about, I just said I think you'll fail. Probably like 180ish

This is totally ridiculous... Physiology is probably the most important topic for step 1! How can you possibly understand pathology or pharamacology if you don't have a solid understanding of physiology? Look through Uworld and NBMEs... pure physiology / patholphysiology questions are at least 15-20% of the content and when you look at how many pathology / pharmacology questions rely on physiology I'd say this number is more close to 50-70% of the content. Anybody who's taken step 1 says physiology, pharmacology, and pathology are the big 3. Just my opinion.
Who the F said it's not important?
Read the thread carefully before posting and filling with garbage.
The question asked if someone is expected the crush the Step if they do well on BRS physiology.
The answer is still no; there is no correlation b/w BRS physiology and step 1.
