Think found error in BRS 5th physiology - cardio pg 100 question 5 - think both ESV and HR would decrease

Just FYI it is a mistake and you are totally right (below is in ref to an email to her about the same q):

Dr. Costanzo,

I was reading your book again for USMLE prep and noticed that the new edition (5e.) has a miskeyed problem on p.100 (cardio section). I believe that question 5 should have answer B as the correct choice, not C as indicated in the key. The explanation supports answer B also I think

Yes, thank you so much!! I had spotted that one and submitted it for correction (whenever they print some new books, this can be taken care of).

Really appreciate you eagle eye.

Take care, and all the best,

Wow, cool! I just ran into this same problem and googled for it, so here I am.

By the day, what the heck is with her "x occurs at the y phase in the cardiac cycle", and then she chooses some event that occurs at the junction of two cycles? What a weird thing to do. Like, one question goes "When is ventricular volume the lowest" and two of the answer choices are "isovolumetric contraction" and the other is "rapid ventricular filling" (p 104 q 45). Answer is "rapid ventricular filling" 😡😡

I should add that the professors at my school love to write horrible problems like these for exams...

p124 has a2g2 in my edition

p65: most people probably just past the units, but they needed to change Q = blood flow (mL/min) to (mL/sec). Alternatively changing velocity to cm/min.

5th edition, GI Review questions, #12:

Which of the following changes occurs during defecation?
Answer key --> a) internal anal sphincter is relaxed

According to the section of lg intestinal motility on pg 198 the internal anal sphincter is relaxed as the rectum fills with ingesta via the rectosphincteric reflex. However, defecation does not occur until convenient. So, if we're looking for a change during defecation should the answer instead be "external anal sphincter is relaxed" as the internal anal sphincter has already done so?
