Hi,

on my costanza phys book, it says BRS on it also. so when everyone is talking about BRS phys is this the book they mean. ther is also another BRS phys book (with the plain blue graphed cover) which is more bullet-pointed.

The costanza book is substantially more detailed.

which one are people refering to??

As far as I know there is only one BRS (board review series) physiology book and that is written by costanzo. She also writes a text book which has a purplish cover and around 500pages long. Both are excellent. The BRS is bullet-pointed and is good as a quick review after learning the material from her text book.

I don't think you should trust anything you hear from Costanza about the USMLE, lest you desire to become an architect, marine biologist, or an importer-exporter. I think ConstanzO would be the better source

hahaha

And to answer a previous poster, yes I would read that 500 page text cover to cover. Its an easy read and use it along with your classes. I had phys last year and I just used that text book and I did fine on the shelf exam. When I started my board prep a few weeks ago I read it again and I will be using BRS from here on out to keep the material fresh

For Boards Dr Costanzo specifically recommends (she's our phys professor and runs our board review) that you use her large book (big costanzo) if you feel weak in phys or her BRS book (little costanzo) if you feel like you retained a good amt. Both have adequate detail but if you are little weak on the concepts it is nice to have a longer explanation.

thanks to everyone for their replies!! i think i will try the little one first and then go on to the big one if i need to

i have the purplish one,

do most people read the whole 500 pgs cover to cover?

Unless you're absolutely awful at physiology, no you probably don't need to read it cover-to-cover. But it wouldn't be a waste of time to do so. Its a really well written book, and covers just about every possible phys question you would encounter on boards.

For a million practice questions, pick up Guyton's physiology review question book. It has enough phys questions to last you until Rapture.

don't forget about the Coast Guard "land guy"

Does anyone have the ISBN for the big Costanzo book? When I google search Costanzo physio, I only get the BRS book. When people talk about using Costanzo Physio, then, they aren't talking about BRS for boards?

If I were looking for a primary phys book, I'd probably choose Guyton. For a review book, BRS phys looks perfect.
