Hi everyone -

I have a specific question about the Bryn Mawr application process, which requires you to submit your high school transcript as well. I went to a top 10 liberal arts school, had a 3.4 GPA, 1420 SAT, and an A in the one lab class I took in college. However, my first two years of high school were dismally bad (Cs, Ds - though I did take all IB/AP classes), which is when I took my high school bio/chem/physics. I got into my college through great recs, essays, and sheer luck of them taking a chance on me. My question is - do I use the second Bryn Mawr essay to address my high school grades? Or does this really matter to them? I don't want to make excuses for it (I was just immature and didn't put in any effort), just don't want to glide right over it if they will see my high school transcript and immediately put me in the reject pile.

I'd appreciate answers form anyone that has been through the Bryn Mawr app process/program.

Thanks guys!

BM just wants to make sure you're a "guaranteed" acceptance so you don't hurt their numbers. I wasn't asked about my high school grades in my interview at BM, nor when I was utilizing their linkage to my medical school. Mention it in your essay, if you can find a non-awkward spot to insert it, but don't dedicate the entire essay to it. It is fairly clear you've overcome that academic struggle, as evidenced by your acceptance to and success at a decent college. If you get an interview, you'll have the opportunity to more eloquently explain yourself, if you so choose.
