Rezdawg said:Dude, youve said this in about 10 threads. NYU's tuition is only a couple thousand less expensive over the four years...however, living in New York is way more expensive, not only with housing, but also with going out and doing things within the city. Overall, going to NYU would definitely cost more money. You say that you dont have to live in Manhattan...same thing goes for BU, you dont have to live in Back Bay. However you slice it, living costs for NYU are greater than living costs for Boston, more than making up the tuition difference.

fightingspirit said:rezdawg, first and foremost, i did not mean to offend you or beslight your alma mater. second, here is a very common misconcenption tht most people have on nyc: NYC is very expensive and more expensive than boston!!!
guess what? other than rent and real estate, NYC is actually cheaper in everything else (NYC is the hub of capitalism and its competition brings down prices and makes goods on sale almost everytime of the year). not to mention that in NYC, you can perfectly rely on speedy public transportation no matter where you live, as long as you're in one of the 5 boroughs of the city.
i truly said that you dont have to live in manhattan. but i did so because the subway system in NYC is very well-developed and all-encompassing in each and every borough of NYC. you do not have that in boston and thus you may need to rely on slower/less efficient public transportation systems in Boston. having to own a vehicle makes matters even worse off course. in other words, for a given number of minutes and a given fare, one can commute through longer distances in NYC, when compared to Boston. longer distances mean more affordable areas. besides, in NYC, you get more for yuor buck: think of all the attractions that NYC has, especially Arts, Museums and Broadway and free outdoors concerts in the summer. you are paying for all of that when you are in NYC. and most importantly, NYC is genuinely (not pretendably) open to people of different ethnicities and races. these things are worth more than just money!!!
