Hi everyone!
My university has a pre-dental committee and I already handed in 5 recommendations to them for them to compile into a committee letter so in that respect, I am set. They are going to send straight to AADSAS after cycle opens.

However, I realize two of the schools I am planning on applying to need a dentist LOR. I'm still contemplating whether I would go through the hassle of waiting and asking my the dentist I shadow since he is a busy man. But if I do decide to ask, would I tell him to send straight to AADSAS? Would it be better if he sends the letters straight to the two schools themselves? The schools I am referring to are Boston and Tufts. Has anyone applied and got interviewed there without a dentist LOR? Please let me know, thank you!

Did your 5 LORs (that's a lot!) include 1 from a dentist? If not, I think you're allowed to send another letter on the side alongside your committee letter.

If yes, then I have the same question. If your committee letter includes a dentist LOR, do you need to send a separate dentist LOR alongside your committee letter confirming your shadowing hours?

Many schools would like to see a letter of rec from a dentist. I would definitely work on getting one. Also most schools prefer to receive letters through AADSAS. Schools do not usually allow or recommend sending letters directly. I would approach the dentist and have them send the letter to AADSAS. It doesn't have to be submitted like right away. giving a dentist a month or so should be fine, just make sure the letter is sent by mid july!

I agree with the rest, but I'm inclined to say the OP should do it now rather than later. I would hate for your application to get put aside for any time at all because you don't have a dentist recommendation there. I know there was a school I applied to that said they would not consider my application complete until I sent them a recommendation from a certain kind of dentist(this was not Tufts or BU). I believe Tufts used to require sending the recommendation from a dentist directly to the school, but now they go through AADSAS. I would ask the dentist for the LOR soon as possible. There's just no reason to wait and risk having it be an issue. Best of luck.👍

I have a similar but more complicated problem.

I have a committee letter, and used extra letter slot for a letter from a supervisor I'm pretty sure this is a very strong letter). Therefore, I'm out of slots. Tufts requires a dentist letter though, and I don't know how I can send it...

I called Tufts, they told me to ask AADSAS, and AADSAS told me to ask Tufts.

Any ideas, anyone?

Does the committee letter count as three? I realize the committee letter can be in place of the three professors, but does it take up three slots? I would called Tufts again and explain the situation to them. The admissions office is very helpful. They may be able to decide on a better course of action now that you have contacted AADSAS and that didn't seem to solve the problem.

They said that everything must be handled through AADSAS. I'm going to try to get my school to throw it in with the committee letter then, even though they said no before.

The best way to solve this for everyone with a committee letter is:

Letter #1) Upload committee letter, which may or may not show individual letters of recommendation.

Letter #2) Add letter from a dentist. If it went towards the committee letter already, oh well, have them upload it again.

Last year my letter from a dentist was already used in my committee letter and no one cared. (7 acceptances, including to Tufts)
