I think no matter what my stats were, I screwed myself in my interview. First off, I traveled with my father who is a smoker and my f'n suit reeked of smoke even though it had been in a suit bag far away from his seat - I was so pissed. I asked another interviewee if it smelled and she assured me it didn't but I am sure she was just being nice. Smoke-stench suit is never a good impression. Secondly, when they asked me where I see myself in x years, I said (which I have said at EVERY school) "Well, I realize that I may change my mind in d-school once I've had actual hands on experience, but at this point in time I am interested in pursuing a pediactric residency--" at which point I was cut off and lectured on how I'm applying to d-school, not pedes school, and then a next question was asked before I could refute the interviewer's shpiel. I planned on finishing my statement by talking about the tremendous flexibility of d-school and how I realize I don't have a solid idea of where I'll end up but I know no matter what I do within the field that I'll be enjoying my job and life and bleh bleh bleh. I realize you're 'not supposed' to say you're interested in specializing but I saw no reason to lie to adcoms and this type of question/answer led to good conversation with my interviewers at 3 other schools so I figured I'd stick to what had worked in the past --- and it didn't. I'm just stoked that I was wait listed and not rejected lol. I hope to get in off that wait list if I don't end up getting into Stony. But if I don't, oh well, I'll still become a dentist at NJDS.
... So I think if you didn't basically stick your foot in your mouth on your interview like I did, you should be fine.
