Does anyone know if bumetanide comes in pre-mixed infusion bags? My hospital goes through quite a few 100mL infusions a day, and all we have are the 10mL vials. Alternatively, larger vials would also be great. Anything would be better.

Consider it as a job security. There is not a commercially prepared larger volume bumetanide but I'm sure you can order them from places like Pharmedium or Ameridose. Yet, you'll pay premium for it. In times of financial difficulties healthcare systems are facing, why would you spend another penny for convenience of pharmacy personnel who are able to prepare them inhouse.

Bumetanide 10ml vials cost $1.30 to $2.90 depending on brand. Premixed will cost a lot more.

Darn, I was hoping you wouldn't say that. We definitely wouldn't outsource its preparation, we only do that for our IDPN bags (if you can call it outsourcing, they just get prepared at our affiliated VNA pharmacy).

Job security for techs... and maybe the junior pharmacist too. I will say that if your hospital is high volume - premixed does make sense. My world changed when we got Vanco 1gm IVPB - Forever

Is that right? So $13 and change to mix inhouse. Pharmedium will most likely charge minimum $30 per bag and delievery charge.

High volume? let's say they go through 1000 bags per year.. that's 3 a day if you want to call that high volume..which will take me less than 5 minutes to make. That's potentially $17,000+ per year more. And that's 3 bags a day. You think it makes sense?

How much are you paying for the frozen 1 gram Vanco? How much does Vanco vial cost? how many bags of vanco do you go through per year?
How much more money do you think your hospital is spending?
