I don't think there's any penalty for looking into application. You should be able to log on and look at it. As long as you don't send it to AACOMAS, you didn't apply so you shouldn't be considered re-applicant.

The AACOMAS web page has a "before you apply" section that goes into each part of the application. This should answer any questions you may have. If you open a file this year just to look at the application it won't be to big of a problem. Just so you know, you will have to open another one the next year when you apply.

I actually did this. I registered and opened an application on AMCAS and AACOMAS the year before I applied and filled most of it out just to get an idea of how my application was looking. There was no problem and I never submitted.

I did this also. I opened an application one year and filled out most of it pretty late in the cycle. After more consideration, I decided I'd take a year off so that I could actually afford to go to the interviews. At the end of that cycle, rather than submitting the application, I printed it so I had my responses from the year before to reference.

Nobody ever brought up the previous application...and I was not considered a re-applicant bc I never did send it to any schools.
