It is final exams week at my undergrad university. I just took an exam yesterday and did average. I have two huge finals in physics and genetics in one day (Thursday), but when I try to study, I feel unfocused and rather not study, so I don't. I know I need to study or else I'll end up with C's in both classes. But I just can't focus. I feel mentally drained.

What should I do??????????????????

You just have to work through it. If you really can't focus on studying at least try to copy sections of your notes that are where you are having problems, so maybe you will remember that for the exams. That is only good for genetics as physics you just need to do problem after problem.

I really think you need to speak with a professional after this semester is over. You've posted a few other threads that are similar to this and that doesn't bode well for how you can handle the stresses of med school. That's not to discourage you, more like you need to learn better coping techniques as what you are doing now isn't as effective. Good luck on the finals, most of us have been where you are right now and we just had to push through!

I'm in the same boat...

I just took a grueling 3 hour organic final and feel like I can't go anymore...
I have 2 more on thursday

I am actually sitting in the library right now and have been wasting time since I got here...

What gets me to fight through it and study is just to think about the fact that as soon as I take these exams...i'm gonna be done, and if I do bad on them than I'm not gonna be feel nearly as good than if I feel like I did well.

It's a tough thing to do but trust me...you REALLY don't wanna get C's...Sometimes it may not seem so bad but C's are really things you wanna stay away from...I used to think it wasnt that bad...but now I see that I'm probably going to have to re-take all those classes that I got C's in, so...just ask yourself...Is it really worth it to slack off for 24 hours...and essentially waste 4 months of hard work?

You suck it up and then realize that relative to what is coming up, that stuff is cake.

every semester when exam season rolls around, I just keep telling myself "at this time in a week (3 days/1 day/etc.), I'll have NOTHING to worry about." And then I keep going.

I'm tired of college. Fortionately I only have about a week and a half left.

start studying a week or 2 before the test. by the time the test comes around, you only have to study a couple hours the night before the test. it even works in med school.

Think positively. Your going to do fine and good luck on your finals.

I second that. I used to burn out 1st and 2nd yr of college because I would wait til the week of finals in order to study. This yr, I started studying a couple weeks in advance, and I found myself to be much calmer and more ready for the finals. I even got straight A's; you just feel more confident going in when you aren't tired and flustered from an all-nighter beforehand.

I'm currently just finishing up my second year at DMU. I can tell you this: if you think you are burned out in undergrad you can not imagine what is coming. I know everyone has heard this before but med school seems like undergrad x 100. I would literally kill to have as much "free time" as I did in undergrad while going through O-Chem and genetics in the same semester. Compared to med school PLUS studying for the boards at the same time undergrad was nothing.
