Good Morning,

I wanted to post to make myself available for any and all questions you may have regarding BUSPM or podiatric medicine in general.

Best of luck during this application cycle. If there is anything we can assist you with please don't hesitate to ask! 👍

Hey Amy,

I applied to BUSPM but just waiting to take my MCAT tomorrow. I will probably get my scores late February (if it still take 30 days to grade without the writing portion.) I'm wondering if I'm a little late and how far is BUSPM on their application cycle?

Thank you

Hi Amy-
I am trying to get an idea of whether I should apply this fall or wait until next year. Would summer classes after my freshman year be counted as part of that year or would they be tacked on to the beginning of my sophomore year?

Also someone told me that the GPA in the application is split into an overall (for the 4 years total) general GPA and a averaged overall subject GPA (just biology chemistry and physics), as well as split into a general GPA and a science (including all science) GPA by year. Is the GPA reported to AACPM for their information book the overall subject science gpa since an overall science gpa is not calculated? Also how heavily is improvement considered? My freshman year was not the best, but since then my other grades are near the average.

Sorry for all of the questions!
Thanks

You're not late, you're just in time. 🙂 I look forward to receiving your MCAT scores.

Hi there,

Classes taken after your freshman year are counted as your freshman year... Sophomore begins in August.

The GPA is split into 4 sections per year. There is a total GPA, a total Science GPA, etc... We look at the total, as well as the upward trends with schooling. Improvement is considered, and weighed appropriately. We review the application as a whole.. 🙂

I hope this helps.

Can students apply if they haven't completed all of their prerequisites but have a good MCAT score? I will be missing Bio 2 at the point of application, but would like to get my application in early.

You are more than welcome to apply pending an academic prerequisite. That will not hinder your application. If you were missing more than 4 I would suggest that you apply once you receive those grades.. You can always do an academic update.

Hope this helps.

When is it that most of the seats will be filled?

I take my Mcat on March 23 and will send in my application as soon as I get done with the test. Will I be wasting my time and $ by trying for this cycle or is there still time?

Thanks.

There is still time. The class typically fills up in the summer. We still have space available.

What is the current MCAT/GPA average those who have been accepted thus far?

Thanks Amy-I had a kind of rough time taking summer classes that year and this gives me hope that I can show enough improvement 🙂

The current MCAT score for students that have been accepted thus far is a 22.

The average GPA is a 3.2

Minimum requirements: GPA 3.0 with an MCAT of 20 or greater with at least an 8 in Biology.
I read on the AACPM Podiatric Medical College Information Book that the range goes from 2.4 to 3.93, what is the lowest gpa accepted thus far? So where do they get this number if the minimum gpa requirement is 3.0?

Perhaps it's more of a preference than a hard cutoff.

I believe AZPOD and DMU are the only schools that enforce a hard cutoff.

What is DMU's cutoff? Because someone was just invited for an interview with a 3.0 gpa and 19 mcat and those are kind of low at this point in the cycle. Is it because there arent many more applications coming in? The person did say their ec's and lor's were really good so maybe that had something to do with it?

Good, since I won't be applying to those schools. Hopefully some pod school out there will accept this 2.8'er 🙂

Haha well it depends on what your mcat score is and the rest of your app.

The 20 MCAT at BUSPM is a hard cutoff, I'm not sure about the GPA.

So then how come they have accepted students with below a 20?

Which means they entered in 2011 and the acpm handbook said they accepted students with an 18 mcat score.

You'll notice I said I thought it was the 2011 entering class that had the cutoff, it could have started with the 2012 class.

EDIT:

Since I am not a member of the BUSPM admin I have a suggestion: If this is something you are really curious about, the best tactic will be to pick up the phone and call the admissions dept at Barry and ask them. Any answers you get on SDN, outside of the actual BUSPM admissions person that occasionally posts, will be second hand info.
