No one replied to my post about Kentucky... so I thought maybe I should give up considering UK because it's so late in the game already... But maybe I'll hear something from them soon.

In other news, I got into Butler and UCincy... I would probably have to choose between the two if UK decides it's a negative for me... Does anyone have any advice or viewpoints on any or both programs? I loved the people at Cincy, but the area was kinda shady. I've only heard good things about Butler, but have yet to scope out the area. I go to college in Indiana, so it wouldn't be a problem to go look.

I would really appreciate any feedback! 🙂

Expenses: Butler is more expensive than Cincy
Area: Butler is a very nice quiet private school in a wonderful neighborhood. Cincy is in the ghetto pretty much.
Quality of Education: The Naplex passing rate of Butler is extremely high, I don't know about Cincy, but most schools have above 90% passing rate.

Cincy has a NAPLEX pass rate of 98% and a law exam pass rate of 100%. I don't know about Butlers (you could probably google it).

I don't think Naplex alone really represent the quality of the education. It's just a test. Some schools have higher NAPLEX possibly because their curriculum or exams are more NAPLEX-oriented. Or it might because Butler admits students who are nerds-(positive term) (as evidenced on their high GPA & PCAT) and are already naturally motivated to do well on the any test including the NAPLEX. Of course, having those students, school will have higher passing rate and attrition rate.

To me NAPLEX passing rate is not my biggest concern. It can be an individual effort. I think I might be able to study session as prepare youself for the most part if I have fundamental knowledge from any pharmacy schools.

I went to a nursing school that have a high NCLEX (nursing license passing rate). Why? It is because the teacher make every freaking tests more oriented toward this specific exam (mutiple choice& priority types of question) and just keep repeating stuffs that gonna be on the licensure exam to the point that it becomes annoying.

I hope pharmacy schools would not just care about the passing rate and would concentrate on making their students a future well-rounded pharmacist by providing good clinical rotation sites, and interesting curriculum.

I don't know I am not a pharmacy student as of yet so I can be wrong. This is just my assumption.

If you have specific questions regarding Butler feel free to pm me.

Butler's a great school, very student oriented. Professors are always willing to meet with students if you have questions/concerns and you actually do get to know your professors on a personal basis. The profs actually know all of the students by name/face, that's not something you are going to get at very many schools!

As one poster has already stated, Butler has the third highest NAPLEX first-time pass rate and as of late, the highest MPJE pass rate as well.

Cost can be an issue, when I was applying to schools Butler was actually the cheapest, many people tend to think that private schools are quite expensive however my experience has been that private universities actually offer students MORE financial aid than do public universities. Since financial aid info was due March 1 for us, I'm sure you'll be hearing soon from Butler regarding your financial aid package.

My parents recently moved to Cincy and I have some friends at UC for Pharmacy; both are great programs but ultimately it comes down to where you feel you best fit in.

Again, if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

Best of luck!

I don't know anything about Butler, but I don't think that Cinci has the greatest program.... the accept all the rejects from University of Toledo College of Pharmacy and a lot of Toledo people apply there as their back up/safety school. I know that Cinic has decent passing rates, however, and the only pharmacist from there that I've met was just as competent as any other pharmacist I've worked with.

Go to Butler, because I applied to Cincinnati and I want that spot. JK

Seriously, Cincinnati is great. The program is very well established and the pharmacists that graduate from there are well rounded and have have all kinds of careers (I live in Cincinnati and have met many graduates through working in a pharmacy). It is not in the "ghetto", it is in an urban neighborhood. There are shady areas, but it won't take you long to realize places that you should avoid. There are also a lot of very neat, safe, and fun areas close to the pharmacy school.

I know Cincinnati very well, so If you have any questions about the area PM and I'll be happy to help.

Thanks for all the feedback! I've already saved a space at Cincinnati and Butler's deposit isn't due 'til May 1st, so I can think about it for a bit. I'm really torn; I go to a small, liberal arts college with awesome student-faculty relations, so I would definitely love that about Butler. But, like I said, I loved the students and faculty I met when I was in Cincy.

It may come down to location, I suppose. A lot of my friends are moving to Indianapolis after graduation, so it might make the transition a little easier, since this would be the first time I would be living on my own for real. JohnLennon and ButlerPharm.D. especially, but I'll appreciate comments from anyone from Indy or Cincy... do you have insights on living in these cities?

Thanks so much!
