This was discussed at length last year here:
Butterfly iQ ultrasound?
Some of my co-fellows elsewhere in the country have used them, and don’t have particularly positive things to say. Apparently the newest generation is a little better, but I’ve never personally used it so all second hand reporting here.
Personally we have an abundance of linear ultrasounds around our ORs. I’d love a pocket cardiac probe as those are in short supply, but I’m a bit of a dork and I would worry about the quality on a small screen (I don’t have the mega 10 XXX or Galaxy 14 Plus)

Is that the new porn specific model?

A close friend has one. Image quality seems really good. It’s nice having one probe that does everything.
US at my shop are few and being used frequently. Hard to get quickly.
Here I thought this was about a test for how smart people were about IVs with little wings, for peds pts.
Out of touch, as usual.

I’m interested in the cardiac quality myself.
I’ve read both that it performs well and also that it’s garbage for cardiac from different sources.
Would be nice to demo it myself
i imagine it may easily be because of what you are looking for. probably worse than large ultrasound for the little TTE details, but if you want general idea of cardiac function, may be pretty good?

Unboxing review.
I would love to know how good this is for nerve blocks.

Here you go. Fresh off the press:
* sciatic just before bifurcation.*
One of my partners just bought one.
Here is a TTE looking at IVC.

I’ll have one tomorrow and likely readily available to me. Will report back.

Wow, looks pretty good. Where do you place your phone/screen during the block?

selfie stick in the left hand, holding it with your palm while you push meds on the syringe with your left thumb

So anyone figure out how to get butterfly images onto Epic?

I can easily imagine this functionality through the Haiku app, one day. But remember each built of Epic is very different from another one and custom for each place, making a standardization across the platform difficult.

I’ve been playing with one. Image quality is more than adequate for lines and blocks. Starts up almost immediately with very intuitive controls.
The only issue I’ve encountered so far is that the probe is quite thick so if you are using it for a superficial out of plane procedure such as an Aline, your needle tip can be deep to the artery before it appears in the exam plane. I’ve had to adjust my technique so that my entry angle is very shallow. Otherwise it works as advertised.

How well does it resolve endocardial structures and valves ?

Not that great....in cardiac exam mode you give up a LOT of spatial resolution for temporal resolution. You could probably see obvious leaflet restriction, calcification, or prolapse, chamber size and function, effusions, etc. It also has color Doppler. It’s probably good enough to make a diagnosis such as severe calcific AS but not something like mitral P2 prolapse. It’s nothing like TEE.
The stills from the cardiac clips are not worth posting but here’s a popliteal sciatic nerve and an adductor canal.

What kind of patient population do you have where the saphenous nerve is at 2.5cm?!? I wish.
