Hello,

How do buy out / buy in of a practice usually work, especially in the event that the founding partner is retiring and there is only one more doc already partner in the practice?

Thanks.

The nuts and bolts can vary considerably, making it very difficult to answer your question. Can you provide more details? Is the current partnership equal between the founding partner and the other doc? Is it a comprehensive or subspecialty practice? Do they own their own building? Shares in an ASC? Is the founding partner going to retire as soon as you start? In other words, are you taking over his/her part of the practice? How established is the other doc? Is he/she going to expect to absorb some of the retiring doc's volume? Are you going to be buying in from the start? Or are you expected to have a salaried associate period? If they're looking to bring you on, they likely have some sort of plan in place. Or are you looking to approach the practice cold?

Hi Visionary,

Thanks for your reply. I PMed you with the details.
