By when do I need to have 90 units in order to apply to DS?

I see it almost on every DS website. "Requirement: 90 semester units
They don't really clarify if we need to have 90 units by the time we apply, or by the time we enter dental school in 2009.
Can anyone clarify this for me please?

You'll need the credits by matriculation. Also I think if you look at who gets in with only the minimum credits, you will see they have exceptional GPA's and great DAT scores. That info is in the Official Guide to Dental Schools put out by the ADEA.

You better have a 5.0 on a scale of 4 if you want to be accepted. Either that or be a rich, influential leader. Anyone can apply, even GPA's above 2.5 in some cases. But seriously, have you ever heard someone with such a GPA being accepted? I mean, it's probable if they have DAT scores of 30 across the board, but in other cases, you're more likely to get hit three times by lightning in the middle of Time Square.

Thanks for the answer. I have already checked your link, and it's very disappointing for my 82 undergrads units besides my 4.0, 24AA and 26TS. I'm still glad that the 90 units are required by the time of the marticulation and not application.

Assuming you have the maturity and you don't blow your interview, if you cannot get acceptance with your stats, there will be little hope for others. Eight credit hours will not likely be a deal breaker.

Eight isn't but thirty is? It specifically says at least 90 on every dental school's admissions I have seen so far.

Are you talking about your situation?
I have 82 units [which is 8 units less than 90].

I think he and the other SDNer said that 90 units are required before "Marticulation" and not "Application". I have 24 units planned for this year, so that means I will have 106 units by the time I get marticulated to a dental school. Makes sense?

The list you apparently have seen is 12 short. Creighton is at 64; Mercy, USC, SIU, SBU, BU, CASE, OSU and Meharry at 60; NYU at 48; Wash 40 and Tufts at 31. For the class entering 2007 three enrolled with 2 years of college and 28 (not counting UTSA and Marquette) with 3 years.

Most pre-dents apply after their junior year when they have completed around 90 hours, so harrygt is fine with 82...by the time people finish their senior year, most will obtain their bachelors degree which is usually around 120 hours. i think you're confused and thought the norm is to apply after you get your bachelors...

That's amazing, but keep in mind, these people are very likely on president's list. And I apologise, I saw a few dental schools that required a a min. 90 to apply and assumed it was true for the rest of them.

im going to wvu this fall after only 3 years of undergrad...i had around 96 credits finsihed after my junior year...gpa was nothing stellar...around 3.78....and did decent on dat.....dont let people influence u not to apply...everyone on this forum is so tight assed about everything...worst possible scenario is u dont get in this year and go back to school for your last year and then apply again. i say go for it
