OMG this person should not be allowed to go to dental school. I definately wouldn't want such a low person doing dental work on me. I guess this is just a reminder that ppl shouldn't use their real names online and be very cautious. Although we seem to be more or less a close community here, creeps do pop up every now and then. 😡

This is taking competition over the limit. I know how people tend to share their info here but come on, sharing phone numbers? He could have gotten all your info if he hacked your phone and got your info.
What should you do now? Go to the gym, go party, forget about this. It is all in your head. He is a freak and he is not worth what you are going through. If he did hurt your chances at Columbia, then it is a matter of privacy and this is when they law comes into play.
away from that, keep your Tissy nick, because it makes no difference since you have done nothing wrong.

Hi Tissy.

Sorry you are having to experience this unnecessary stress. Just count it as one of those "lessons learned". You have to remember that this forum is no different than any other on the web. There are good and bad folks on them all. Just please remember to not be as trusting of individuals in this virtual world we live in.

Regarding someone in admissions giving out your last name, I would not think one additional second about that. Because if it did indeed happen, both the school and the person that allegedly gave your name out are liable. Again, if it did happen, there are too many law and privacy violations to list, not to mention the unethical nature of the act. Maybe, just maybe, if you were already a student there, your last name might be able to be given out. But, absolutely not if you are applying. In a nutshell, and before I put you to sleep, no worries.

Best of luck to you and like I said, be careful of who you talk with on the web and spend your time getting ready for your first year of dental school as I am sure you will be accepted 🙂

Thanks for the ideas...that's GREAT!! Anyways, if he did try to do that, I would find out ASAP. I would get a conformation through e-mail stating that the date has been changed or rescheduled.

He's a really nice person but just didn't know that he did hurt me. He thought it was all good but it wasn't. Innocent guy who is really nice but just eager to get into dental school. So I couldn't see him doing harm to me in that way..I'm sure he feels bad already by upsetting me...🙁
 
post his name and phone number on here. I'm sure someone on here can do a check to see who the chum is!

What an immature, sad, poor guy. I almost feel worse for him than I do Tissy. The guy has to live with himself for the rest of his life. 🙁

Tissy, like the rest of the (sane) people her on SDN, I feel you have nothing to worry about. From speaking to you both on SDN and via e-mail you seem like a person of integrity with a good heart. I seriously doubt that this will jeopardize your chances in any way. The adcoms listen to BS from thousands of applicants each year and if they can't smell the desparation in this guy then nobody can...and we all see it so I'm sure they do too.

Keep your head up and I wouldn't leave SDN, others might benefit from what you have to offer (anonymously, of course).

P.S. If there is anything I can do for you please let me know.

If you really are serious that you will never post again...I will seriously miss you. You were always one of the good ones...open and fun and helpful. I hope you get into dental school and the jerk who did that to you gets into dental school, but then fails out 3 years in and owes the school hundreds of thousands. and wasted three years...that is the wish.

Well, now that I went back and reviewed all my PM's with this person, I also have to agree with tissy that he isnt such a terrible person. Just someone who would probably do ANYTHING to get in. Including... giving up his dignity.

Luckily, after reading all my messages to him... I found that he didnt have any real useful info on me. But I am thankful for tissy for saving me from a future disaster!

Good luck to everyone. Especially to those who are trying to get into dental school the dignified way! :luck:

Anyways, basically he was asking what he had to do to get an interview b/c someone with low scores/gpa did “me”.
When he was telling me that he did this today, I became soo upset. Well he didn’t see the point on why I was so upset. He just kept asking what are your experiences and blah blah blah. I started to wonder what the hell is really going on. He completely ingnored the fact that I was upset and kept asking me to help him with some volunteer pointers for some paragraph he said he had to write to the committee. Point is…I’m extremely upset..people on this forum have helped me and not once will I reveal their identity..…

Come on people..if we help each other use common sense..don’t be out there to hurt others..I’m so sad and upset at the same time..what a disappointment.

Am I wrong for being upset? Wouldn’t you be upset?

That's really f-ing weird. From previous posts I gathered that you are a long time veteran of the military and of health care (dentistry). You deserve the interview more than most with your service to our country. I would rather see a community college grad with your background and scores get accepted than some Harvard kid who has never done or seen anything in his life. Just keep doing what you will and sell your military and health care experience for what it is worth. It worked for me👍 . Good Luck Former Tissy
 
Wow Tissy, that really blows! But I think it wasn't as big of a deal to the Columbia people as it was to you. I can't see how this guys who is totally unrelated to you can have any bearing on your application! I also see no reason for you to leave SDN???

The main thing that stood out to me in your story is that you put yourself in a dangerous position by giving too much of yourself to someone you met onthe internet! There are so many creeps out there - use caution, for your sake alone! I personally at most use my first name in PMs - AT MOST!

That's why I get a bit upset when people are constantly asking what another person's "stats" are. It's nice to have a general idea, but that information is on many school's websites.

It's as if some people believe that if their stats are a bit higher that they should automatically gain priority over the other person. When they find out that people with "lesser" stats are getting interviews they get real upset. We all need to realize we're all different and some people will fit specific dental schools better than others. Tissy, I've always admired your comments because you've never come across as rude and always supportive. You deserve that interview unlike some of the other freaks out there. Don't let anyone make you think otherwise. But, like others have said...always be wary of giving out any personal info.

Hey Tissy. You're awesome. Don't let this guy get under your skin because you have been nothing but an articulate, helpful, caring, and thoughtful presence on this board. Even if someone at Columbia decided to read what you've written here, it would only serve to HELP your application in my opinion! You seem upstanding, 'nuff said!

I hope I have someone like YOU sitting next to me in lab!

Holy #$%#@%. What an idiot. That is seriously messed up. Tissy I wouldnt worry about your chances though because if Columbia does come on here to see what you wrote, you wrote nothing but good and encouraging things to give others hope, and all that will happen is that they will see what a good person you are.

You can make a positive out of most negatives you know. Rather than posting what you did, you could have just tried to be really impressive on the board... Especially if you know people are watching. It could have been advantageous even. Maybe not... I hope Adcoms look more in depth than into forum posts to get their information... or else, they could have been like puddy in your hands 😛
 
people, i'm sure he feels bad after reading this thread. i think we should refrain from making mean comments about him now because he probably gets the point.

I soo understand. If I were in your position, I wouldn't be upset - I would be infuriated. How dare this person divulge personal information to a school? It was a breach of privacy and trust. He obviously lacks a sense of respect. He should feel more than bad.
 
Yo...whoever that creep was...he just made himself look bad in front of Admissions. He was using Tissy to get an interview...sorry, but I definitely hope he doesn't get one now. By confronting CU about their choice of who they invite and don't invite...I think he just basically challenged the Admissions people...stupid...I'm sure there was some quality that CU saw in Tissy for her to earn that invite.

Now I'm so curious to know who this rat is.😛
 
I'm closing this thread, but have a few comments before I do.

1. The internet is not a private instutition. SDN is open for anyone to read. People are not always who or what they seem.

2. Do not divulge personal information to people if you don't want them to know it. That includes everything from your GPA and your undergraduate school to your name and your hometown. What you divulge is up to you, but you must remember the above comment.
