We all know BYU is probably the biggest Dental feeder school in the country... Just wondering where you're all heading

Go cougs!
I've been accepted to Oklahoma and Michigan. I am still hoping for Colorado sometime soon, but if not, then we are off to OK! by "we" i mean my wife and i of course

I know 2 from BYU that are going to Temple... are you one of them?? haha, pm me if you have questions or want to contact them. They don't get on sdn.

Go cougs~!!!
I'm going to Michigan...
Anyone heading to Michigan?

lets hear it fo the momos! i've tried to hate them, but they're so damn nice. i'm a fan.

haha for the momos?? nice 🙂 Too many of us though we swarm Dental schools like ants

I'm jealous, I think only 3 are going to Temple so far 😛 that's not a lot though considering we pumped out what 400 predents this year?? 🙂 Congrats to all

<side note> we are getting the shaft! The year we leave BYU plays Oklahoma, and Florida State AT home!? I wish I would be here haha

Not as cold, maybe?

haha, the cold. When I interviewed at Michigan, it was -5...brrrrr... My wife would LOVE it...

Seriously, Oklahoma is a better fit for me and my wife. It's closer to home in CO and I think we'd enjoy living in Oklahoma City. As far as the school, they do a lot of clinical work. Michigan does quite a bit too, but they also have a big focus on research (not interested in doing research). Being the #2 or 3 recipient of NIH funds helps with that... Michigan is a fantastic school, but I think the overall experience for my family would be best in OK. It's different for everybody... Make sense?

oh and props to dentist707 on Michigan.. have fun!

OU! My only concern is I still don't know who to cheer for at the BYU v. OU football game!

Is that even a question? We have to stay true to Cougar Blue! (even if the game is a blowout...)

Shoot. I better buy tickets. Dallas is only 3 hours away...

Let's get a caravan together.

Where is the love for U of U students?

Better buy tickets now, they already went on sale. I wish I was going to be in town for the FSU game too! We are getting shafted on the football schedule. Maybe I will delay D school a year.... 🙄

I say Go Gators 1st, BYU 2nd, MWC 3rd! haha

The U of U is where its at.

They got screwed this year. The Utes had a great team. We'll see what happens with this law suit.

How has this turned into a BYU bashing thread by the Utes? Start your own thread. Go cougs!

I'm heading to UCLA, any other BYU grads joining me?

UCLA was tempting, but I went with UCSF. Sometimes I compare the weather in LA and SF and wonder what the heck I'm doing. Overall though, I'm psyched for the bay area.

Here are a few quick stats: We cranked out 340 applicants last year (although only about 60% were accepted)

"Momos" make up 27% of all dental school applicants (from the top 25 feeder schools) and BYU is by far the number 1 feeder school in the nation (http://www.jdentaled.org/cgi/content/full/68/9/947). Go cougs!

Anybody else heading to San Fran?

Where'd you get this stat? That report is from 2003-2004...

And I know that I'm not in those 340 applicants because I am not registered as a predent on campus.... the number could be off

I'm in at Colorado off the waitlist. Just got the call this morning! No more DAT and re-applying for me!!!!

It doesn't matter if you are registered as a predent or in the predental club on campus. BYU has nothing to do with publishing that statistic. That report was from the Journal of Dental Education, which is published by the American Dental Education Association. They have access to all of the statistical records from AADSAS. So you are one of those 340 applicants, or for the current year I think it is 278.

NYU for me.... of course I'm from the BYU up north in Rexburg.

Oh ok. I thought you were talking about the stats that the preprofessional office puts out.

Hey guys! I'm a first year at UCLA. Anyone from BYU coming to UCLA next year feel free to give me a call sometime if you have any questions about the life of LDS guys at UCLA SOD. I'm really excited to meet all of you. There are 8 in my class, and about 25 in the other three classes. Send me a private message and I'll send you my phone number.
