So I bombed calc based physics I (luckily it's the only C I got) but turned it around in calc based E/M - my question is should I take third semester physics and try to get an A or B to make up for the C+ or am I fine?

My GPA is otherwise fine so I'm not too concerned about JUST raising my GPA - but just to show med schools I can do physics is it worth the extra work or should I consider it negligible?

Topics in third semester at my school include: optics/light, quantum and nuclear physics, solid state physics and modern physics (relativity etc.)

Are you in semesters or quarters? My quarter system was Mechanics (quarter 1), E and M (quarter 2), and then Waves, Optics, and Heat/Modern (quarter 3) all in one year. We had to take all 3 to satisfy premed requirements, and I believe semester schools cover all that in 1 yr too.

I would recommend taking algebra-based physics 3 just because it teaches stuff that is on the MCAT

to answer your question, there are several physics tracks at my school. One is physics for the life sciences (which I should have taken) which covers everything from mechanics/thermo, E/M, waves/optics/sound and nuclear physics in two semesters.

The other is Physics for engineers which covers everything in three semesters (and yes we are on a semester basis) so yeah it takes a year and a half to complete the engineering physics track; physics three is not required for my major but you are right that the material is on the MCAT.
