C- in Orgo II: Any chance for med school?

i havent gotten my orgo ii grade yet but im worried that i may not have done well. what should i do?

I vaguely remember that med schools need at least a C in all pre-reqs to matriculate, but it may vary from school to school. You may want to check out the requirements at schools you're interested in. Call up the local med schools' adcom and ask.

One bad grade won't kill you, however, a C- will pull down your sciGPA substantially, I would consider retaking it and aiming for an 'A'.

I've had a difficult semester (family issues etc) and took a lot of hard science courses ended up getting a C- in Orgo II. I got an A- in Orgo I and I know that I could have done better in the class. So I was wondering would med schools consider if I retake the course over the summer and do much better the second time around? I know that I could have done better, and that is why it really sucks. How much would this affect my chances for med school? I have gotten A/A-/B+'s in my other science courses.

This is the dumbest thread ever. A majority of people in medical school have C's.

It is above a 70 but I am definitely going to retake because I know that I could do better. I feel like crap because of this. I've never gotten a grade this bad in my life

Quit being a baby. I got like 8 C's, and interviewed at a top 10 medical school in the nation.

It's a waste of time to retake it. Do well in subsequent courses.

You are probably an exception. And I have free time and know that I could have probably have done better. Spring semester was really ****ty for me.

Everyone has a bad semester. Move on. Use your free time to take more advanced courses.

If you decide not to re-take it, just make sure your school will accept the C-. Some say you must have a C or above for the class to count. Personally, I think you should take some upper-level classes and do really well in them.

As long as a C- is acceptable as far as getting credit for the course and the rest of your performance is good I don't see there being too much of a problem.

Got a C in orgo 2 and am going to NYU (was accepted at a handful of other schools to). Take it for what you will but stop worrying.

I would retake it, even if that ~70 rule works at some places. It will be a lot easier to smooth over in an interview if they bring up your C and you say, "Yes, but I had some issues that I corrected, retook it, and got an A."

But it's your choice of course.



There really really really really needs to be an FAQ at the top of the pre-MD forum answering questions like this.

Most colleges don't grade by numerical final grades, they give you a grade out of 4.0. And under that system a C- does not equal a C. Thus schools that explicitly require a C or better in all prereqs won't be satisfied with a C-, I don't think. Check with the schools.

You're probably right, although I believe the pre-DO FAQ is read quite often.

Worse comes to worse, we could always reply to people's questions with "Read the FAQ" instead of searching for a similar thread ourselves and then posting the link to that.
