c/s GPA : 3.8x
MCAT: 30S

Above average ECs covering the entire spectrum + some special things + early app.

CA residents are often stuck in the "CA situation." However, if I preferred to go OOS (given my stats)..I should have a pretty good shot landing at least a single acceptance right?

You have an excellent chance at getting at least one spot somewhere (an 82% chance to be exact). Just make sure you apply to a reasonable amount of safeties, middle-tiers, and a few reach schools. From what I've seen, Illinois and New England are some of the more CA friendly regions.

I can't fathom why a person with my stats will have any issues getting into med school. I mean, if this isn't what they're looking for...WHAT CAN THEY POSSIBLY WANT THAT I HAVEN'T DONE?!! I seriously need to get off SDN because I think (or know) I have a good shot, but constantly doubting myself. I guess that makes sense when you compare yourself with 4.0/40 MCAT people. SDN is making a mad-woman out of me.

Well it's more than just grades and scores. A lot of people have no ECs, have no interest in medicine but have been forced into it, or simply are just terrible at interviews/social situations.

As anecdotal evidence, I knew a guy with a 3.9/41 MCAT sophomore year of college who sabotaged his own applications and got rejected from every school he applied to. He didn't want to be a doctor, and just wanted to show his parents that he "tried."

Must be terrible to live the life that your parents want you to live.

You have a great shot if your EC's are what you say they are. (FWIW, I put your exact chances at about 73%)

Keep in mind that there are other factors that keep people out of school-- bad LOR, poor PS, poor interview skills, felony, dishonorable military discharge, institutional actions, etc.

lol can't fathom?? Well confidence won't be an issue for you during interviews.

Drexel and Temple in Philadelphia have a lot of Cali students, as well. I'm pretty sure, after Pennsylvania, Cali's the most common state of residence for Temple students.

Ohh I didn't know this about Pennsylvania. I'd love to live there 😀

You guys have a harder time getting accepted, but our IS tuition rates are a joke. Caveat to the above suggestion: Drexel's ~$44K/year, IS or OOS. Temple is ~$44K/year for IS and $54K/year for OOS. 🙁

I don't intend to appear arrogant or anything of that nature. However, I do know that I have good academic stats, strong LOR, strong PS, and motivating story. However, reading SDN sometimes creates these pockets of doubt in my mind. SDN is nuts!
