Cadaver Lab

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone else nervous/scared for this?

I feel like I will be that one student that passes out 😕

I thought I would hate it , but when I took a tour of a cadaver lab it was something I actually found to be very interesting and something I'm looking forward to. If you can I would recommend trying to schedule a tour of a program and see if it would be possible to tour a cadaver lab. Having an idea of what to expect might make you less nervous when you finally get there.

Cadaver lab really isn't that bad. Midway through the first day, we kind of forgot that we were dissecting humans because we were so focused on the task at hand. The part I was most nervous about was seeing their faces, but they are covered all the way up until you start to dissect the face. Just remember that these people made a very selfless decision in donating their bodies to you so that you can have the opportunity to learn. Our professors reiterated that to us constantly to help us get through it. Try to make the most of the experience too! How many times in your life are you going to get to hold a human heart and brain in your hands?

Cadaver lab takes a little while to get used to, but it is such a great learning experience that no amount of models can replace. If you're allowed to, I recommend going in after hours to review structures with a few classmates because during lab we spent most of our time trying to find the structures which didn't leave much time for reviewing.
