I am new to this forum and to USA, and yet to give my NBDE part. I am collecting more and more information so sonia vashist and everybody here seems to very experienced and DDS holders. What I learnt from these posts is CAL BOARD is the licensure exam that u need to give after u finish DDS and when u need start practising, HAVE I GOT RIGHT???
I would also like to know how exactly do i go about my struggle for DDS, I mean 1st of all I give my part1 and apply for schools or I give even the part 2 and then apply ( am in CA) and what are part 1 and part 2 bench tests, can u plz help me to become more clear about all these things.
thanx.
hi,
well before putting my name down and trying to show your frustration, let me tell u,that i still havn't got my dds,and i am still at home,i am trying to manage a 5 month baby alone without help and i am trying to study for my exam at the same time... and when i came here i did not rely on this thread to find out information, people on this thread do help each other and that's why we have name's for differnt posts.... the one u should be checking out is info for foriegn trained students....no one is sitting here to spoon feed anyone... you can't just log on to any post and expect us to tell u from scratch what to do and what not to.. we called ada, dental school's seniors etc and got all our info.. we have many things to do.. we are not sitting here to just ans inquiries of people like u... you put your time and effort and read the various thread's and you will get all ur ans...i have responded to many inquiries about licensure... but that was before... now i have a baby and cannot respond to all ans.. had u read this post completly u would have understood....
but anyway's i am so pissed off.. coz we put all effort and find things out...and i don't even mind sharing all the info with u.. but this is no way of trying to show me ur frustration... u want to know evrything in 2 mins so i am just supposed to put all my work aside and ans your questions because you don't have the time to read up the various thread's or websites etc and find things out yourself....
well anyways
if u want your licensure here to practise in ca,which is now similar to getting licensed in any other state in us.... u have to first of all give part 1 ndbe, and then apply to school's.. the website
www.ada.org has list of school's which have the idp that's the international dentist program. then you have to apply to those school's.. differnt school's have differnt requirements... some want only part 1 scores some want both part 1 and 2. and u have to apply to each school individually. application cost per school vary b/w 60$-200$.also when u apply most schools need your toefel score...so basically u need part 1,and 2 ndbe scores and toefel.. once u have these apply to separate schools. each school has a website where they tell u about the course the fees, and application deadline... typically when u apply, each school will have interviews and some form of dexterity tests.. they may ask u to cut a class2 or a pfm,etc... there are classes which prepare you for the entrance tests to various schools... then if u get into the school...its a 2 or 3 year course and then after that u have to gie a licensure exam... there are various one's.. like the wreb which is the westren region which get u licensed for 37 states in us or if u think u are only going to be in ca then u can just take the cal board...but if you go to school in us,then u can practise in any state all u have to do is give a license exam after the 2-3 year idp course. as far as the bench test or the rt test its a test by which u can skip the step of going to 2-3 years of school for the idp course and then after the bench /rt test u can take the licensure exam and practise.. but this short cut is only available to those people who gave their part2 ndbe by 2003 dec.. anyone after that who is forieng trained and wants a license has to go to school for 2-3 yeays and complete the idp program...
so for you i am guessing u still havn't given part 1 and 2, u need to study for those... there are various threads on this website where u can get study material, etc
in the meantime if u have a green card u can work as a dental assistant.. that's the only thing u can do legally if u have a foriegn dentist degree and a green card.. also even if u don't have a green card u can go do voluntary assisting work at a dentists.. this help u when u want to get into school...
this is a summary of what i know.. please don't expect any more respsnses from me.. and GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING!!!
👍🙂
