when i calculate GPA for science course, Do i have to calculate all science courses? even the ones that i retook? i mean like for an example, i got c+ in biology and it worths 5 credits and then i retook it and i got an A. Do i still have to put both of then in my calculation or just use the higher grade? Thank You, by the way i did search on the forum about this topic, but it doesn't say anything about this case.

i am pretty sure you need to use both.

luckily i did not have to ratake a classes so im not 100% sure.

Yes, everything is counted. If you retake you must count both the old and new grade.

hmmm, depends on each school i think but i would guess that you would add everything up including classes that were retaken.

5 credit bio class? Rocket bio? Geez... and yep you include both grades.

Oh yeah its both. I really screwed up my first 3 semesters so my gpa was awful. It hurt so much to put those F's in there and see the 7 semesters of nearly straight A's overshadowed by my bad start. Luckily, Tufts looked past that.

er uh oh.. what if I dropped a course a course once, then withdrew completely during another quarter in which I was taking the course, before finally taking it in the summer (effectively the third time) getting an A? Does dropped count as F?

They don't count dropped courses as F's if you dropped before the drop deadline. I don't think they even know you dropped it (is it listed on your transcript anywhere?). Withdraws do, however, count as an F I'm pretty sure.

I don't think that withdrawals count at all, in a GPA...... Right?

what qualifies as a science course? i've had courses in the speech pathology department (that's my major) like neuroanatomy and craniofacial anamolies. what will aadas do with those?

when you are filling out your coursework for AADSAS, there is a FAQs page you can use and they have a long list of what counds as bio, chem, phys, science, non-science.

you will have to look at the list or call AADSAS. i remember having trouble with my biochem class. do i put it as bio or chem? and the FAQs page said if it biochem given by the bio department then put it as bio and if its biochem given by the chem department put it as chem.

i am not sure, but i even think calculus counts as science.

so just make sure to check out that FAQs page or call AADSAS.

AADSAS prompts you to list your courses and the grades received just as shown on your transcript. How it is calculated will depend on if you received a W or a WF.

My transcript simply says:

------ Fall 2004 ------
12/01/04 WITHDREW

------ SPRING 2005 ------
*** REENTERED ***
PHYSICS-LIFE SCI MAJ PHYSICS 6B 5.0 (units)
COURSE DROPPED - WEEK 10 (last week b/c of financial aid issues)

There's no W or WF or anything where the grade designation should be, it's just blank

I had this same problem. My Biochem classes were offered by the Biochemistry department, haha. I just picked one.

If there's no grade but the class still shows up on your transcript, that is a withdrawal. You'll put it as a "W" on AADSAS.

do principles of personal health and concepts of fitness go into the science gpa?

So what does a W translate to in terms of GPA calculation?

It doesn't affect your GPA. It does however make look bad if you have too many. How many is too many though is hard to tell. I'd say 3 max, and preferebly not in any required bio or chem courses.

Hi, I'm not going into dentistry, but I did have a question about GPA's. What would be better? To take a W or to Re-enter a class and take a D in the class? (Maybe a C and BTW it's a English class.)

If you think you might get a D, definately take the W.

no idea.........you can always call AADSAS if you really need to know

W is better than a D, ne? Alright, I'll take the W then, thanks!

I know this might sound ridiculous, but I am more confused than ever on how to calculate my GPA.
-From what Im understanding: there is a GPA based on science pre-dental courses, another GPA for ALL science courses (including upper-level science courses), and an overall GPA?

-Is there another GPA exclusively for pre-dental coursework, including physics, english, math etc? If not, where do the math, and physics fall?

-How do '+/-'s factor in to the GPA? and which one do the schools look at?

-When we're looking at the avg accepted sci/cumm GPA statistic of various dental schools, which GPA is it refering to?

i think the answers you lookg for are in this booklet

Bumping an old thread because now I'm filling out the application and I'm not sure what to do about special classification for a class that I withdraw from, then took again. It seems like I should put "Repeated Course", but the AADSAS Instruction book makes it seem like "Repeated Course" is for a class that I received a grade in, and retook to get a second grade. Should I just leave it as no special classification?

I am in the exact same situation and I called the AADSAS about it. They said to list the course the first time and put your grade as a W and then where it says Classification just put N/A. Then where you took the class again and actually got a grade, you just list it as normal.
