I'm a Canadian applicant and my university runs on a semester system, fall (september-december) and winter (January-april). Each semester we have to take a minimum of 5 courses to be considered full-time students. For my 1st year, this is how the course "credit hours" are divided for each course and I just wanted to make sure if this was the way to determine the 90 semester hours in total which most schools ask for.

Fall semester:

Bio 1 (Lecture: 3hrs, Lab: 1.5hrs)
General Chem 1 (Lecture: 3hrs)
Intro. to programming (Lecture: 4hrs, Lab: 1hr)
Calc 1 (Lecture: 4hrs, Lab: 1hr)
Physics 1 (Lecture: 4hrs, Tutorial: 1hr)

Winter semester:

Bio 2 (Lecture: 3hrs, Lab: 1.5hrs)
General Chem 2 (Lecture: 3hrs, Lab: 3hrs)
Physics 2 (Lecture: 4hrs, Lab: 1hr, Tutorial: 1hr)
Calc 2 ( Lecture: 4hrs, Lab: 1hr)

Total hours in my 1st year: 44 semester hours

So I would need to do 46 (90-46) more semester hours in order to be able to apply to med schools right? Obviously I would still need to take the required pre requisites in my 2nd and 3rd year but I am confused about the 90 semester hours most schools ask for.

I have no idea about the grade conversions, but basically, you need to plan on getting your bachelors degree. Plan out your schedule so you can accomplish that, then plan to apply a year before your desired medical school matriculation date.

You don't need to get 90 hours to apply. But you will need a bachelors to matriculate pretty much anywhere.
