calculating gpa??

Hello I have a question about calculating gpa

ok lets say a person has 91 92 93 94 95 80 70 60 50

how would u calculate the gpa? I thought gpa was calculated by the average x 4, but i heard it's not... (i.e. 0.982 x 4 = 3.93)

I think you're thinking of a QPA (not GPA) where it's the quality points.

So if you take a 3 credit class and get an A, your quality points for that class is 3 x 4 = 12.

With 14 credits, let's say you got an A in your 3 credit bio class, A- in 3 credit history, B in 4 credit chem, and B+ in 4 credit physics.

So your quality points are (3 x 4) + (3 x 3.7) + (4 x 3) + (4 x 3.3) = 48.3

To get your QPA, divide by the number of total credit hours (eg 14)

48.3/14 = 3.45

didnt u just explain what QPA is not gpa? (BTW im from a canadian university...)

so gpa = average grade x 4??? and qpa is the one that u just explained??

well AMCAS uses your QPA, not GPA. QPA is used to give weight to classes.

I have no idea what you mean by gpa = avg x 4. why is it multiplied by four? a straight gpa is an average (but meaningless, because a 4 credit class counts for more than a 3 credit class).

to use your numbers: 91 92 93 94 95 80 70 60 50 (assuming they all count the same) = 725
since there are 9 inputs, 725/9 = 80.56

holy crap that means i have a 4.0 qpa!!! omgomgomg

ok what I thought was... for some reason... u had to convert ur average (i.e. weighted average) to a mark out of 4.... which didnt make sense to me... (so if ur average was a 98%, you convert that out of 4... which is like 3.93 or something)

ok i thought to get a 4.0 gpa, u had to get 100% in every subject... but I guess not....

so im guessing that ppl who go to med school got like 85-90% average in university?

so are there any benefits of actually getting 99-100% in classes?? Because a person with a 90% average has a 4.0 gpa, which is the same as a person getting a 99% average.... this doesnt make sense to me.....

are you serious?

there's just no way you could have a 4.0 if you can't figure out how to calculate your gpa. there's just no way....

and you're way off in your thinking there. A 4.0 doesn't mean that you got 100% in every class! haven't you ever heard of a grading scale?!

hey im in first year lol and our transcript only gives us our average.. so i didnt know how gpa worked...

so whats the point of getting a 99% average if a 90% average give u the same gpa of 4.0??

can u explain this to me???

also, do most med students get around 80-90% weighted average? or do they get higher?

not sure if you are the same person that posted the thread cuz i'm too lazy to go check...odds are you probably are, but anyways

a 90% is not a 4.0 for msot universities/colleges. it is a 3.7. it works like this

100-95% = A = 4.0

94%-90% = A- = 3.7

89-87% = B+ = 3.3

86-64% = B = 3.0

etc. etc. the cutoffs for -/+ might change from course to course or school to school, but thats the general grading scale

Where do you go to school? Are you saying you don't get letter grades for each of your classes? Are you outside the US?

lol yea i go to a canadian university... we get percentages and not letter grades lol...
