One of my friends came out of her BU interview today and she told me that her first question was why she didn't take Calculus. Her response was that she is still planning on taking it next term. The interviewer said that they don't accept candidates who haven't fulfilled their requirements, therefore, she isn't an eligible applicant, and then proceeded with a very good interview.

Guys, is this true? If I haven't taken calc yet, I won't get in? Also, is only Calc 1 required, or Calc 2 as well? One of the dental students there said that it's only Calc 1, but I have doubts. Any input anyone? Thanks!

Depends on the school- admissions requirements may vary. You should be asking admissions people instead of other applicants. For most schools I believe the requirements just have to be completed before attending (usually by the end of spring term prior to Dental school starting)

I believe that every dental school requires one full year of calculus (along with the other basics like a year of bio, chem, orgo, etc.) Am I wrong?

it's not necessarily one year of calc, sometimes students take pre-calc then calc and that fulfills the requirement of one year of math and basic calc. i know i was confused also, but its true, it does depend on the school.

At UF it is

Calc 1 plus Statistics

or

Calc 1 & 2

Dental students, do you actually need calculus for anything in dental school? I'm post-bacc going through the dental school pre-reqs. I thought I was done with calc because I have a semester of calc and a semester of stats. However, if calculus is actually needed for dental school courses maybe I should try taking calc 2? My science GPA could use the boost (assuming I do well in a notoriously hard class) Do you think it would look bad to retake calc1 (got a C the first time) about 4 1/2 years after taking it the first time. If i was to take calc2 I would definitely need to brush up on calc1.

That sounds like it has 'bad idea' written all over it.

I am taking Calc. 2 right now -- I got an A in Calc. 1. I am failing miserably in Calc. 2 and it was not worth the hassle and stress over a possible 'W' on my transcript, or, worse yet, a C or a D.

I would stick w/ Calc and Stats. Statistics seemed more useful, anyway, not that I actually remember any of it.
