Hi there! I am currently a freshman in college. For my undergrad University, I am not required two semesters of Calc, only one. I am thinking if I need to take calc II or if I will be fine not taking it for med school...
Also, I am able to swap out the second semester of organic chemistry for biochem if I dislike orgo chem in my premed track. Should I just stick with two semesters of orgo chem?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on the requirements at each school you apply to. Some schools require calculus, statistics, both, or either. Most schools require a year of organic chemistry.

Look at potential schools requirements. For the most part I think you will definitely want to take Orgo 2. As well as Biochem. I think every school will require the Orgo and many will Biochem. I don't think 2 semesters of Calc are required at much...many don't require Calc at all.

The above posters are correct. Some schools require statistics, some require calculus, and some schools require both; most, but not all schools, require a second semester of organic chemistry.

I hope this question isn't offensive, but are you interested in U.S. medical schools? And if so, are you a U.S. citizen?

Very few med schools will explicitly require calc II. But if you used AP credit for calc, it is in your best interest to take the next level up (i.e., calc II if you got credit for the AB exam, calc III if you got credit for the BC exam) to show the med schools that require calc a college grade.

Some schools may say that you can sub in one semester of biochemistry for the second semester of orgo, but it is in your best interest to take both semesters of orgo in addition to biochem.

Oh no, not offensive at all. I am US born and yes, US Schools. I am the girl in the back in my picture haha.

Okay, thank you! I did take AB calc in high school, but didn't get credit for it. I just now took calc I, but I suppose taking calc II is a good choice! I'll definitely take both semesters of orgo, thank you!

Okay...then you should be all set.

I agree with the other posters...make sure to preserve some of your anonymity here...adcom members are still human. It would be unfortunate if anything you said here in anyway negatively influenced your app.

In that case, you shouldn't need to take calc II if you don't want to. Basically the idea was that you should take a calc class in college to have a college grade on your transcript. If you actually took calc I in college, then you're all set. But if math is your strength, then that can be a science GPA booster.

Take Stats, Bio Chem, and Orgo Chem.
You don't want leave any holes on your transcript.
