I was wondering if it was too much to take Organic Chem and Calculus during the summer? Or would it be a work overload?

I would take it during the spring but I'm taking Gen Chem 2 and Stat. I don't know which way was easier. Or if I should hold off on Stat until the next fall semester?

You would be scrambling to keep up because those are two of the most study/practice-intensive courses in the pre-pharm sequence. ESPECIALLY if you're in the lab for o-chem at that time as well. I would just recommend taking one.

Depends on the course load that you're used to. I would try to squeeze in calculus during spring semester instead or possibly switching the calc and statistics so that you are taking statistics and ochem together. I wouldn't purposely take ochem and calc together during the summer, but I'm sure if you were dedicated to it, it could be done. 👍

I wouldn't do it. I took organic chem lecture and lab as a 6 week summer course, and it was miserable. I didn't have time to really learn the basics and just had to cram a lot. Then I didn't feel as prepared for the PCAT chem section and it has also hurt a bit for the first unit in biochem. I was also working 25 hours a week which made it worse. I DEFINITELY would not take orgo as a summer class while taking another summer class unless you just have a fantastic mind for chemistry and don't mind not having time for anything else for the summer.

If you aren't working and just doing those two classes, it seems very doable. Would I do it? Not really. Statistics is easier than calculus (just my personal take on it). It might also depend which calculus series it is, since I think differential SUCKS. But anyways, I would try to keep it at ochem if you can.

I am taking OrgoI w/lab and CalcI right now. It's been tough, but I have 2 really good professors, and the course load hasn't been as bad as I thought.

Having that said, my experience would be different from yours. Traditionally, orgo and calc are really hard courses by themselves, and doing them both in the fast-paced summer could overwhelm most people. I just happened to score some luck with my classes. So unless you're an awesome student...don't do it🙂

Pharmacy schools may look at that in 2 ways: if you can handle the class in a short period of time and get an A, then you are excellent. But if you fail or get a c then they will think your are only trying to finish the class quickly as possible which can be a bad thing to have in your application. My plan was always to do the general education or electives over the summer and the pre reqs during the fall or spring.

just do some research on the professors and go from there
I took 20 credits over the summer and dropped one lab but got a B+ and the rest A's because i did my homework and knew what to expect from the professors before i set foot in the classroom
Good luck to you

I wouldn't suggest it.
