I am a Cali resident and like most of us out here, my first choice would be to get into a Cali Med School. That said, when I looked at the Non Trad Acceptance thread, I do not see a single UC there - only one acceptance to Loma Linda. Do resident non trads get interviews at Cali schools? And taking it a step further, is there anyone that got accpeted to a Cali school as a non trad ? I would be very curious to know. Or are the stats available on SDN not a very good representation of the reality?

SDN posters represent a tiny minority willing to spend time saying stuff on SDN. For every person I've met at EVMS who posts on SDN, I've met 10+ people who don't post, just read, and 20+ more people who have never heard of it.

When I was an undergrad at SFSU, I recall two post-bacc students getting into UCSF. Both had good gpa/mcat scores. One used to be a pilot for fedex. The other got involved in a laser lab in the chemistry department.

Most people in my post-bacc program just use this site to check out the secondary prompts.

Selection bias.

Non-trad applicant here. Got inteviews at 4 UC's and Stanford 🙂

non-trad here too. i received interviews at 4 UC's and USC: 3 acceptances, 1 waitlist and 1 still waiting to hear back...

it's definitely doable. almost all of my interviews were interested in my "non-trad" story and seemed to like that i have some life experience aside from 4 years in college as a premed.

This is very encouraging ! Keep it coming !

Same here! All my interviewers (in state and out of state) were very interested in my life experiences. One of them (at a UC) actually focused solely on this, and I was being interviewed by the associate dean of admissions 😉
I definitely think that being non-trad makes you a very interesting applicant for what you can bring to the school. Although, with schools switching to the MMI format ( UCD, UCLA, and Stanford this yr) your really have to make sure you emphasize your experiences in your application, as you won't really get a chance to talk about them during the interviews.
I cancelled one of my interviews in CA, so I only attended 4 interviews total. I have 3 acceptances, and waiting for a decision from one more 🙂
:luck:

Many of my non-trad friends were accepted at UC's. I don't think being non-traditional is a negative anymore. I think the oldest one of my friends who got into UCSF was a non trad that did a postbac as a career changer and had no prior science coursework.

I believe when he was accepted he was about 36 or so and I know he had several other Cali interviews and acceptances as well.

What post bacc programs in Cali did you guys participate in? What about the LA area specifically? Are there any to avoid?

It's pretty difficult finding a CSU or UC that will take on a second bachelor's student. Most of the UC's formal postbacc's are for people that have applied at least once and not gotten any acceptances. You can do some searching around in the dedicated postbacc forum and find more info than you could possibly hope for.

Well..I didn't get any interview from any UC.

I do know one girl who goes to UCSF, she got her master's from Columbia in some kind of science.
